  • Family-friendly Cornish holiday park on Trevose Head
  • A 15 minute-drive from Padstow and half an hour from Newquay
  • Sandy beaches nearby: Harlyn Bay and Constantine Bay 20 minutes' walk
With its lighthouse, coastal vistas and fab beaches, Trevose Head is something like the Cornish coast in miniature. If you're looking for seaside capers with your nearest and dearest, Harlyn Sands could well be the place. The site is family-run and works hard to be a welcoming spot for you and your tribe. Younger kids are well served here, as there's a play area, TV and games rooms and kids' club to keep them happily occupied. In the evening, there are special events for all to enjoy (and a bar is on hand for mums and dads who fancy a nightcap after the show). Harlyn Sands is also a handy kind of place: wifi is available on site so you can keep in touch with the folk at home, and there's a food shop should you need to stock up on essentials. Barbecues are allowed for alfresco dining, but takeaway options are also available if you'd rather skip the cooking. If you need a supermarket, take a 15-minute drive down the road to Padstow. The site makes no secret of the fact that it caters mostly to families (furry friends included), so teens need to be mindful that they don't stay out too late or disturb the peace.

Liked: Great location within a very short walk to a gorgeous secluded beach and then onto Harlyn Bay. Toilets/ showers very clean and staff lovely.

Disliked: Seemed steep at £40 a night, perhaps would be better value for families as lots of children’s activities/ park but not for young couple. Also thought a little cheeky to charge for WiFi.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Close to the beach. Nice park for our 5 year old. Entertainment was good for children at night. Staff was friendly.

Disliked: Toilets and shower blocks cleaned in morning by the time the evening came they was disgusting. Had to pay for showers. Also swimming was paid for separately. If you didn’t get into the club house early there was no tables. Pitches was really close together, felt like they had tried to squeeze as many tents and tourers on the field as they could without thinking about personal space. No WiFi unless you paid for it, but signal for WiFi was awful anyway and for my kids who are 15 and 12 WiFi is essential.

Liked: The convenience of the site. Easy access to the beach, and good facilities such as a well stocked shop with daily deliveries from the bakery, large bar with lots of choice, restaurant and good play area, swimming pool. and entertainment. Lots of toilet cubicles and showers. Although busy, it didn't seem over crowded and it was nice to see how inclusive the site was. Beautiful beach just a short walk away. We were able to leave the campervan parked up for days without needing to use it which is exactly why we chose to stay here. Will definitely stay again.

Disliked: The toilet blocks need attention. The flushers didn't work well on most of the cubicles - I image children were unable to flush properly because of this, which led to constant blocked toilets. The laundry facilities were also mostly out of order. I imagine this could become frustrating if staying for a long period and having paid for those facilities.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Great place, great facilities for all concerned. Friendly staff very helpful. Fantastic location great access to some stunning walks.

Disliked: Shower facilities need a revamp. Few bad eggs led to some antisocial behaviour especially from some of the teens not appropriate for our young children that could have been policed better.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Friendly staff in reception Good swimming pool Shop Location near beach Good pitch sizes

Disliked: Overall the atmosphere of our holiday went down hill in the evenings. There seemed to be a theme that adults would drink excessive amounts of alcohol and create conflict with one another. This made the site not child friendly. Adults using derogative language which is hard to shield from children when tents are no more than 2 sheets of fabric. Music was on until gone midnight in the club house which resulted in the drunk and disorderly conduct continue until around 1am. The staff did not police any of this behaviour, my partner when going into the clubhouse to get change for the showers was told to wait for his change whilst the bar man pour himself a pint.

Liked: Toilet facilities were really clean and well looked after. Play area was lovely. Really short walk to the beach, and the beach was absolutely beautiful. It’s a real gem of a place

Disliked: No/very few gluten free options in shop for my coeliac son (but not a problem as we’d catered for him anyway

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Really enjoyed out stay here ( second time in 6 weeks) fantastic entertainment both for children and adults, very much geared up for the children which was great, facilities were kept clean, staff very helpful on arrival and during our stay, if you decide to eat at the restaurant then ( mixed grill was very good) the menus was pretty good and good value, as other places we’ve been generally very limited and costly. Swimming pool was so warm and fantastic for the kids who couldn’t get enough off. The beach coves are sandy with lovely clear clean blue water, looking forward to returning soon

Disliked: No dislikes, liked everything

Local attractions

Folk in search of some beach time have come to the right spot, as Harlyn Bay and Constantine Bay can both be reached within 20 minutes on foot. Guarded by the RNLI between May and September, these splendid stretches of sand are hubs for snorklers and swimmers, and each has its own surf school - mighty handy if you want to learn to board in a safe environment. Padstow (15 minutes' drive) is a fishing town that's quite a draw for foodies seeking fresh, locally sourced products. Whether you fancy good old fish and chips or Michelin-starred dining, you can be pretty sure you'll find it here. Newquay, a major surf resort, is half an hour away. As well as the seafront, head here for buccaneering adventures at Pirate's Quest activity centre, or get up close and personal with marine life at the Blue Reef Aquarium. Just up the coast from Newquay (40 minutes from base) is Healeys Cornish Cyder Farm, home to both fine scrumpy and cute cuddly farm animals. The South Cornwall coast is also within easy reach: drive 40 minutes down through the countryside if you fancy a trip to the Eden Project or St Austell.
