- Luxurious larch-clad glamping pods with views of the Cornish coast
- In Trevarrian, north Cornwall; a 15-minute drive from Newquay beach
- Underfloor heating, kitchenette, 32-inch TV and private bathroom
Set in a big grassy field behind a 17th-century pub, the luxurious larch-clad pods at Travellers Rest are in a rather scenic spot. Add to that some spectacular sea views, wildlife areas and a friendly gang of free-range ducks and hens and you'll start to get an idea of what it's like to holiday here.
Located in the small hamlet of Trevarrian, this well-presented glamping site is about a mile from the coastal village of Mawgan Porth and a similar distance from Watergate Bay beach, a two-mile stretch of golden sand. Equally niftily, all of Newquay's top shops, arcades and surf shacks are a mere 15-minute drive down the road.
The wooden pods come fully furnished, with perks that include underfloor heating, a 32-inch TV, private washrooms and a well-equipped kitchenette. Outside, each unit also has its own bench and barbecue, with extra veranda space for open-air chilling on lazy days. On top of that, there's access to a shared firepit and stargazing area in a part of the site that's been specially set aside so nature can thrive.
While self-catered options are ever so easy to sort at Travellers Rest, guests partial to having professionals handle the cooking can call in at the pub for a pint of locally-sourced cider and, on some evenings, wood-fired pizza straight from the oven. Other pub classics and foreign-inspired dishes are also available.

Local attractions
Newquay (15 minutes' drive) is more than about just surfing – although if that's what you're after, you'll find hire and lesson opportunities by the bucketload. For family-friendly times with your feet firmly planted on dry land, there's Newquay Zoo and the Blue Reef Aquarium – as well as coasteering and paddleboarding at Newquay Activity Centre if you don't mind getting wet some of the time…
Trevibban Mill Vineyard (15 minutes) is also close by if you fancy sampling some of the finest Cornish wines around (bring a pencil and paper for tasting notes…), while Trerice (20 minutes), a nearby National Trust property, sorts similarly sophisticated days out in the local landscape.
Doyden Castle (30 minutes) is well worth a visit too: also managed by the Trust, this grand-sounding property is actually a tiny clifftop house built to resemble a fortress overlooking the sea at Port Quin. Heading a bit further down the coast, you'll reach Falmouth (45 minutes), home to the deepest natural harbour in Western Europe (with spectacular coastal views to match), while driving an hour in the other direction will take you straight into Plymouth city centre.
