Newquay Bay Resort: Luxury pod with allocated parking and barbecue

General

  • Family park in the Porth valley within easy reach of Newquay
  • Heated pools, sauna and steam rooms and bar
  • Surf lessons, bike hire and coastal walks all available

What a lot there is to do around Cornwall's Newquay Bay Resort, a family-friendly park set a 15-minute walk from the golden and safe beach of Porth. Fittingly for a site based near Newquay, the park has its own surf school for those interested in learning the art – or you might prefer to lounge around the resort's many facilities (and bar) instead…?

Newquay Bay has a good range of modern accommodation and a wide variety of facilities, including a fully refurbished indoor pool with sauna and steam rooms at no extra charge, a heated outdoor pool with seating and a new play area (pool open in summer), and the Venue bar and restaurant, serving food every day and fully kitted out with BT Sports, arcade games, snooker tables and plenty of seating.

The summer months see regular family evening entertainment in the Venue. For food, there's a restaurant in the Venue which aims to produces high-quality food to match the standards of the site facilities, using the best of fresh local ingredients; as much of the food is made in-house as possible, from burgers to sauces. There's a small shop on site selling fresh food, gifts and various essentials and plenty of local supermarkets are close to hand.

Amenities include showers, toilets, disabled facilities, wifi (in the Venue) and launderettes with coin-operated machines; irons and ironing boards can be hired from reception and there are also airers if required.

And if you're here to investigate the surf at nearby Fistral beach and Watergate Bay? Newquay Bay's on-site Blue Surf School has lessons and equipment hire, as well as bike hire and activities such as coasteering, all available for an additional charge. The famed surf festival Boardmasters is nearby.

Please note that mobile phone reception is weak due to the park's valley location.

    Pitches were big, location good

    Disliked:

    Worst campsite ever stayed at.
Toilets/ showers dirty, only 4 showers for whole of campsite, outdoor pool closed, club house closed lack of security with people drinking, shouting and kids running around until 2am. Rubbish thrown all over and people using the water point to throw their toilet waste down. No signal or WiFi unless you sit in reception.

From the manager...

Its great to hear that you found the pitches to be spacious and enjoyed our location. We are sorry to see that there were elements of the site that you didn't enjoy and we will pass on your feedback to the team. Unfortunately, our valley location does mean that phone signal can be difficult to get, however we do provide free Wi-Fi at the Venue and reception, along with a landline which is free to use if you need to make any calls.

Friendly staff, beautiful location and site, toilets …… no!31/08/2021

The surroundings were beautiful! The campsite was lovingly maintained and genuinely clean and tidy. It was a short drive to the beach and the local town, very good location for walking or driving. Our pitch was flat, albeit a little bumpy but genuinely very good. Swimming pools were clean and well maintained, only picked up one loose tile. The shop was open between 08:00-20:00 daily. The staff were alway super friendly at all times.

    Disliked:

When we first arrived we found broken glass on the pitch, it obviously hadn’t been looked at prior to our arrival. The toilet/shower block needed more regular cleaning and between 7pm-8am apparently a mass influx of people needed a poo just before 7pm as there was no toilet roll left in those times, astonishing, I thought it was just ladies periods that synced but apparently a whole campsite needing a poo too! 😉 Bearing in mind, this is a huge campsite, I was shocked to see and speak to the only one security guy covering the whole thing! Impossible! He looked exhausted bless him! No Wifi! At all! Which is shocking as you don’t get any internet reception either! 😲

From the manager...

Thank you for leaving us a review! It's lovely to hear that you enjoyed the site and its location. I'm sorry to hear about your pitch on arrival and hope this was raised with reception so we could sort this out for you! The facilities are cleaned twice a day by the housekeeping team, but I will pass on your comments so they are aware. With regard to the Wi-Fi, we do have this available at reception and the Venue for free, but unfortunately our rural location does mean phone service can be quite inconsistent. We hope to see you again!

Good base for a holiday in Newquay, close to several beaches (closest being around 15 mins walk up/down hill).
    Outdoor and indoor pools.
Site was clean and well maintained.

    Disliked:

The Venue was not serving food most days.
It was stated no gazebos or firepits, so we did not take either, but plenty of both around the site.
Toilets did not seem to be cleaned properly over the last couple of days.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review. It's great to see that you enjoyed the pools and our proximity to Newquay! Due to staff self-isolation, we unfortunately could not serve food in the Venue every day so I do apologise that you could not make use of the restaurant during your stay. With regards to the toilet facilities, these are cleaned twice a day by our housekeeping team, however I will pass on your feedback.

Walk to beach involves walking on a road and sloping pitches.30/08/2021

  • Liked:

    Swimming pool

    Disliked:

Pitch was on a slope so had to strategically put the tent up so tables and beds were on a slant. Not ideal.
Boardmasters had been on the weekend before so the view (which is only a field) was full of tents and rubbish.
Toilets are limited and quite far away from the pitch.
    Swimming pool is great.
Clubhouse was not a nice experience, had booked a table which others had sat at and had limited food options. Had to queue for a long time to place orders for drinks and food, however we understand they were short staffed and that the staff were working as much as they could to rectify this. So thank you to the bar staff for trying their best.

From the manager...

Thank you for taking the time to leave us some feedback. We are sorry to hear that some aspects of your stay with us were not enjoyable. Unfortunately, as Boardmasters is an external event, the clean up is out of our control. The organisers tried to encourage festival goers to clear their rubbish before departing, however it appears this was not very effective. The limited food options were due to some staff self-isolation issues so we do apologise that this impacted your experience in the Venue, but we will pass your comments on to the team.

Local attractions

Take the tiddlers to any one of many kid-friendly things to see and do: Newquay Zoo, the Blue Reef Aquarium and DairyLand Farm World are the closest big family attractions, but it's worth a trip to the Eden Project at St Austell or to Devon for the Crealy Great Adventure Park at Exeter, and The Big Sheep and the Milky Way parks, both at Bideford.

The closest sands to the site are at Porth beach and Watergate Bay, both within about 15 minutes and both part of the beaches at Newquay. If you'd rather sunbathe, stroll, paddle or rockpool than surf, Newquay has miles upon miles of beaches to explore – try a day each at Tolcarne, Lusty Glaze, Great Western, Towan or Tregurrian.
