The south-facing site is a real sun-trap
Lovely day for boardmasters at kestle view
View from the south-facing camping field
Blue skies in the morning

  • Simple, peaceful site five minutes’ walk from a bus stop for Newquay
  • A 10-minute drive from Newquay and its golden beaches
  • Dog-friendly pop-up with valley views; pubs within 15 minutes’ walk
When what you want is peace, space for the kids to play and no-frills facilities on a Cornwall holiday, Kestle View comes up trumps in all three cases. This quiet pop-up site just south of Newquay sits in a four-acre field on a rural farm, where you can pick your own pitch at a site that’s got masses of space for kids to be kids. It’s also just a five-minute walk away from a bus stop for Newquay, which makes it a breeze for guests to get to and from sandy beaches, surfing waves and other attractions. Amenities are simple: there are loos, fresh mains water and a cold-water outdoor shower to wash off sand from the beach (it often warms up when it’s hot and sunny too). There’s no electricity, so come prepared with torches. You can have mini family adventures in the woodland at the bottom of the field, and a small river runs through the farm; exercise any dogs (and the kids) on waterside walks or choose shaded spots on the waterside for picnics. Newquay supermarkets and pubs are 10 minutes’ drive away, it’s easy to get to the local surfing beaches, and there’s a surfboard shop with a repair service in Kestle Mill, within five minutes’ stroll of the site. There’s a railway station in Quintrell Downs (less than five minutes by car), along with a small supermarket and several pubs too.

What customers say

This is a quiet, friendly, and affordable campsite with spectacular rural views. Guests praise the exceptionally helpful and welcoming owners, clean portaloos and fresh water supply. It's well-located for exploring Cornwall, with a pub, shop and bus stop within walking distance. Some mention the access road can be rough, and the site is sloped in places. There are no showers on site, though an outdoor cold shower is available. Overall, it's highly recommended for a peaceful, back-to-basics stay.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Very convienient for transport links as a short walk to the train or bus.
Plenty of space and easy to access.
Whilst basic, the facilities were clean and well looked after.
Price reflects no showers or regular hot water making it budget friendly.

Disliked Observation: Site slopes gently so bring leveling ramps if staying in a van or roof tent. I was in a small tent so not an issue for me.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Staff were very friendly, answered all my questions on email and in person, the site was lovely, clean, and had great views. The site had plenty of space and was not too loud of anything like that, and my friends and I

Disliked The only thing to watch out for is the signal is a bit patchy, but this is unavoidable and not a big issue anyway as calls can still go through, there is better signal about 5 minutes walk up the road, and this is inevitable for any camping site in the countryside.

Liked Perfect for what we needed. An overnight stay with easy access to Newquay.

Lots of clean toilets and a clean washing up area.

Short walk up to the bus stop or 5 min further and get a train (much quicker).

Very friendly hosts.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked The view is beautiful and the site is very quiet. Myself and son enjoyed walking down to the stream at the bottom of the field and playing in the woods making a den.

The site is very simple with a cold outdoor shower and outdoor tap. There are several portaloo toilets positioned around the field meaning you do not have to walk far to go to the loo and they are very well maintained with plenty of toilet roll and cleaned regularly.

I took a Flextail shower for a rustic outdoor hot shower which my son thought was wonderful and created a novel experience!

It is a fairly sloped site in places with some flatter areas, I took ramps for my camper which easily levelled it out.

Star spotting is fantastic with solar lights all around the field and fairy lights are on all the fences making it look pretty at night.

I loved the fact you can take a short walk to a lovely pub for food or take the 20 min bus for £3 into Newquay meaning you do not have to drive and have the hastle of parking in town.

The owners are very friendly and helpful, regularly checking on visitors offering fire pits, wood and marshmallows for sale.

Thank you for a lovely stay and we look forward to visiting again.

Local attractions

Surfers will be chuffed to realise that west-facing Fistral Beach is but 15 minutes’ drive away, with all vital amenities like gear shops and surfing schools to get pros and novices out on the waves. Backed by grass-topped dunes, National Trust - Crantock Beach (also 15 minutes' drive) has a quieter vibe but is still good for surfing and swimming. Young kids with you? Take them to Holywell Bay Beach (20 minutes) to explore the caves, dig around in rockpools and build sandcastles. They’ll all hopefully enjoy a visit to the Screech Owl Sanctuary and Animal Park (15 minutes) to handle owls, watch flying displays and feed meerkats as well. Sneak a little culture onto your sightseeing agenda with a visit to Tudor-era Trerice (five minutes), a handsome mansion with a formal Elizabethan knot garden to admire. There are walks and sculpture trails to follow at The Lost Gardens of Heligan (35 minutes), where 200 spectacular acres of Victorian plantings were restored in the 1990s.
