General

  • Very quiet family park in wildlife haven overlooking ancient Goss Moor
  • Luxury heated caravans including one with full disabled access
  • Eight miles from Newquay and five from Crealy Great Adventure Park

If sylvan surroundings, scurrying squirrels and sweeping moorland views are your bag, take the clan to the family-run Castle Holiday Park in Newquay, where you’ll be perfectly placed to explore King Arthur’s old stamping ground Castle-an-Dinas as well as the rest of Cornwall.

The luxury heated Pembleton caravans here are set in gorgeous grounds overlooking the ancient heath of Goss Moor, with a small outdoor play area for the kids and a heated indoor pool in the summer months. If you’ve come to Cornwall to nurture nature, you won’t have far to go with the wildlife abounding on the park: as well as the squirrels, you can also spot rabbits and several bird species including jays and woodpeckers.

Caravans come with a shower room, kitchen and lounge/diner; there’s also a Pemberton Sovereign caravan with a wetroom and wheelchair access available for disabled guests. All caravans have heating and double glazing, and sleep up to six or eight people.

Please note

The indoor swimming pool is open between 23/05 and 31/08.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Caravan had a wet room & towel heater! Good with 3 adults! Everything was so clean. Caravan was in a great position. Beds really comfy and lots of room and bedding included. Caravan was ready early and if they had my mobile number they would have phoned me.... what service. Had a lovely decked area with patio set for more chilling out. The park itself is in central location, great for visiting different areas of this beautiful county. A great chill out holiday... thank you.

The site is very small, and has no amenities on site, and there is no shop or pub in walking distance, however this wasn't an issue for us as we were out and about everyday.

On arrival there were no issues, we were given a very friendly welcome and our keys and off we went.

The caravan was clean and tidy and had most of the things you need for a weeks stay, though an electric kettle would be better than the one on the gas.

We got to take our dog which was perfect as we hate to leave him behind

Pretty central location for Cornwall, at a very reasonable price. The bedding was all very clean, and the caravan was in pretty good nick.

    Disliked:

Our caravan (and most of the site) is set underneath quite tall trees, so you don't get a whole lot of sunlight (which feels a real shame in the summer). The caravan itself wasn't numbered, and we struggled to find it. We weren't given a map, just the keys and left to find it ourselves. The parking for the caravans is unmarked and a bit of a free-for-all. There probably is the number of spaces per caravan stated, but no guarantee you'll get hard-standing right next to your caravan. The pool opening hours were just inconvenient and limited, and the pool itself was closed on one day due to a fault and pretty cold (and salty?) the rest of the time. Apart from our caravan itself, the whole site felt a little run down.

Me and my husband took our three year old on holiday, staying in a Pembroke elite caravan. On arrival we were greeted by Sandra who was very friendly and gave us lots of info on where to visit while on holiday, a welcome pack included a booklet with money off vouchers!!! The caravan was clean and tidy and quite spacious with plenty of storage space. The park itself is very quiet with nothing more than a pool and small play area for kids. This was a brilliant escape from the usual sites with arcades and clubs. Pool is only open 4-6 in the evening but this didn't bother us as we were out most of the time.
We visited mawganporth beach which was about 15 minutes drive away, after a recommendation from Sandra. The beach is lovely and only £3 parking all day!! Newquay was about 20-25 minutes drive. All in all this site is a great base to explore Cornwall.

    Disliked:

Would have been nice to have a small shop on site for essentials like milk and bread as nearest shop is about 10-15 minute drive away. This is only nit picking.... We thought the site was great and will definatly recommend to others.

Our visit was timed around an event and the location of this site was convenient for that.

    Disliked:

Upon arrival the entire caravan required cleaning. Disinfectant wipes were black. Kitchen was dirty and items were found under units and so dirty I simply returned them there rather than cleaning and using. Not best start to a holiday. Pool was shut over weekend which was disappointing and then was broken so we needed to wait for repair and then discovered it only opened for 2hrs (4-6) around kids tea time. Website has very little detail on it. The van was rented as a 6 person and while there were six beds the seating/eating area wasn't suitable for 6. There is no shop or on site facilities so need to drive to get anything. The tiny play area was very very basic.

From the manager...

I can not under stand if the caravan was dirty why you did not report it to the reception we always pride our self's on the caravans being clean. Yes the pool was closed over the weekend as the pumps hap lost pressure and we had to wait for engineers to come this was beyond our control. The pool can be used at any time during the day when bad weather and people are on the park but it is keep locked when not in use for health and safety. It is mostly used between 4-6 because people are back from there days out and it allows children to have a swim before tea as you should not swim for half hour after eating. The web site states that we are a quite park in the countryside which is the truth how can it say more if there is nothing on the park. It does say about the small play area. also states that there is no Wi Fi. The Caravans are as designed by the manufacturer's and they state how many should use them. I did speak to you many times before you came and you new there was not a shop you also new that your friends were not next door and you had to cross the car park to them this was the only comment you made to a member of staff but we don't not have the caravans in tight rows there are trees and shrubs on this park which most people like. If you want a park with lots of thing to do and be entertained then you should go to that sort of park where you will be paying more than double what you paid with us (£400.00) for six people at high season is very good value.

    Quiet site.

From the manager...

We are sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay. I would like to point out that we say we are a very quite park and that we don't have any entertainment. As for the caravan being damp and musty we a very sure that you are wrong as we have had the caravan let a lot this year and no one else has said anything. Every one else had comment on the cleanness and value for money we can't understand why you did not say anything when you where here. I don't no any other park where you would get a eight berth caravan for £450.00 per week in peak time. We also state that we don't have wifi and only have a small children play area. I think if you where looking for entertainment for older children then you should have picked a park that offered these things. We always say that we are a quite park so may be you need to pick a park offering what you want next time to avoid disappointment. Yours Sandra Badman

Directions

Come down the A30 past Bodmin, stay on the A30 until you reach the Victoria/Roche exit (this is the one before Indian Queens). Follow the road past the Victoria pub, and stay on this road under the low railway bridge and over the fly over. You will find the park on your left-hand side - approximately 4 miles from the A30.

If you're coming from Newquay then take the road to St Columb Major - you will need to take the road for the RSPCA Centre or Spring Field Pony Park. Stay on this road (don't turn off) and after approx 2.5 miles you will find the park on your right.

Local attractions

Start exploring Cornwall just outside your caravan castle with a trip to the Goss Moor Nature Reserve which has a seven-mile circular trail for walking, cycling and horse-riding. Birdwatchers can see breeding species including nightjars, linnets and reed buntings, with hen harriers and great grey shrikes spottable in winter; flutterers can chase after silver-studded blue and small pearl-bordered fritillary butterflies among others.

Sandy sorts visiting Castle Holiday Park will find some of Cornwall’s best beaches within a short drive: the long stretch of cliff-backed Watergate Bay, the sheltered rockpool beach of Mawgan Porth and the rugged coastline and clifftop views of Bedruthan Steps are all close at hand.

The famous surfing beach of Newquay is eight miles away, and if the kids just can’t get enough wildlife at the park or Goss Moor, there’s a zoo and the Blue Reef Aquarium at Newquay too for rainy days. The Crealy Great Adventure Park is five miles from Castle, and St Columb has indoor and outdoor play areas as well as over 30 ponies to ride and groom. Not all at the same time…

A twelve-mile drive north reaches the fishing port of Padstow, where fishy options abound: you can take a boat out to land some mackerel, dangle a line for some sea angling from the cliffs or go crabbing in the inner harbour (lines and bait can be had at many of the shops in the town, including the Padstow Angling Centre, where ‘Rockhopper’ Ed Schliffe can give you tips on technique).

For two-wheel travellers, the Camel Trail follows 18 miles of the Padstow to Waterloo disused railway line along the Camel River, a track called the ‘the most beautiful train journey I know’ by John Betjeman – and if a poet says something’s beautiful, it’s a fairly safe bet that there’ll be some eye-watering scenery along the way. You can buy maps and trails for the Camel Trail and the other Cornwall trails at the Padstow Tourist Information Centre.

Going south, the valley village of Mevagissey is within the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is tucked below the ancient Heligan estate, now home to the Italian garden, wild jungle and flower gardens of the Lost Gardens of Heligan.

Scoot along to Snozzle, or St Austell, five miles away, for a pit stop and visit to the China Clay Country Park two miles north of the town, before making your way to the thousands of plants and the biomes of the Eden Project. The port village of Fowey, also to the south, is where Charlie One almost got his head taken off by a shot from a musket (irony), while a good spot for big and small screen fans is Charlestown, used in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland and in an episode of Doctor Who.
