  • Quiet Cornish park welcoming dogs and kids 10 minutes’ drive from Looe
  • Polperro Beach 15 minutes’ drive; Eden Project 40 minutes
  • Well-kept pitches surrounded by trees; essentials sold in the shop
Looking for a small-scale and peaceful place to set up camp in south-east Cornwall? Get yourselves booked in at family-run Looe Country Park, tucked down a country lane 10 minutes’ drive from Looe. Neatly maintained pitches here are divided by hedges and surrounded by greenery. Looe Country Park is set between Looe and Seaton beaches (and half an hour’s drive from the Rame Peninsula, with its tidal creeks and clifftop walks), so it makes a handy base for families. Pets are allowed to join in all the holiday action, and with the long-distance South West Coast Path a five-minute drive away, your canine companion should also get plenty of exercise. There is a small play area so the kids can let off steam, and you can stock up on essentials like milk, bread, dairy and cleaning products at the site shop (open during reception hours), which also sells barbecue and camping items, drinks, ice cream, canned food, dog food and a few toys for kids and dogs. On the practical front, facilities include separate, regularly cleaned male and female shower blocks. Hot water is supplied free of charge, and there are also soap dispensers, hairdryers and disposable towels on hand. The men’s block has a shaving point, too.

What customers say

This is a consistently praised, small, friendly campsite with a reputation for being clean, quiet and well-maintained. Visitors frequently highlight the spotless shower and toilet blocks, spacious pitches and helpful owners. Its location is considered excellent for exploring the area. Some minor points mentioned include narrow access roads and WiFi being hit and miss. There's a dedicated dog area. Some reviews suggest it's more suited to couples or older visitors due to its quiet nature and occasional complaints about children playing, although a play area is available. Lighting in shower blocks and pitch levelling are occasionally mentioned as areas for potential improvement.

Local attractions

The fishing village of Polperro (15 minutes’ drive) has a sheltered beach just outside the harbour walls. Be sure to check tide times before your visit (and during it), for this small patch of sand gets swallowed up by the sea. Go on a boat trip to admire the coastline and (if you’re lucky) catch a glimpse of dolphins and seals. Adrenalin Quarry (15 minutes), in Menheniot, is the spot for those who are after action-packed thrills. Choose between a zipwire and a giant swing, both flying high above the flooded quarry; or jump and slide over floating inflatables at the aquatic park. The enormous glasshouses at the Eden Project (40 minutes) recreate rainforest and Mediterranean habitats, and there are also 20 splendid acres of outdoor gardens with hundreds of plants, plus installations and play areas. It’s also worth keeping an eye on the event calendar, for the site organises concerts, outdoor films and wellbeing sessions.
