Pine Green Caravan Park: Outside the lodge

General

  • Family spot overlooking the spectacular Bodmin Moor
  • Less than half an hour from scenic coastal villages and beaches
  • Top spot for stargazing in a Dark Sky Reserve

What does relaxation mean for you? Whether it’s chilling out back at base or getting fired up with some exercise, you’re well looked after at Pine Green Caravan Park, a family-friendly site on the edge of Doublebois village, five minutes’ drive from the Cornwall market town of Liskeard.

If all you want is to spend your hols with your feet up, soaking up stunning views and spectacular sunsets, you won’t go far wrong with Pine Green – the site is set over three acres of terraced land, so no matter where you pitch up for your stay, no one's going to be blocking your views of Bodmin Moor.

Those of a more active persuasion won’t be at a loss around here either: make your way to Siblyback Lake for windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, trout fishing, and cycling and walking routes, or try Colliford Lake Park for moorland walks and fly-fishing.

When it comes time to fuel up with dinner, you can fire up the barbecue (there’s a supermarket about five minutes away) or venture out to one of the many restaurants within 10 minutes of the site. After you’ve eaten your fill, kick back on site with your eyes to the skies: this is a Dark Sky Reserve, so the stargazing is top notch.

At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.

Clean site that didn't suit my requirements,03/08/2021

Great view across the valley, friendly and helpful owners, few mins drive from Liskaerd station.

    Disliked:

Random haphazard layout of various accomodations, strangely "extended" caravan near the toilets?, site location and access to dog walking areas, lots of industrial areas just outside the gate.

From the manager...

Hi Andrew

Its a shame you did not enjoy your short stay with us but did state that you did not want to drive your hired motorhome around, instead we suggested public transport links that you could use to enjoy the surrounding location more.

Our accommodations are not "haphazard" but are built to take in the scenery and suit a variety of needs and budgets. We are always complimented on these rather than just rows of static caravans seen on other sites

I have no idea what you mean by an extended caravan? I can only assume you were referring to another guests choice of awning on which we would never comment

As you have stated, it just did not suit your requirements however we do not state that we have a dog walking area, and the map of our site clearly shows our location.

Friendly and considerate owners who checked daily everything was alright. Extremely well thought out site with modern luxury facilities building, unlimited hot water and no push button, largest shower cubicle I’ve seen on any site, with piped music ensures a great start to day. Brilliant whit granite chip hard standing pitches. Fantastic views with fantastic sunsets. Very secure site with very clever access/exit system. Close to major trunk roads and towns great place to stay to break up journey for a couple of days to western Cornwall.
Not suitable for children as no play area may benefit in becoming a formal Adult Only site.

Says the site is dog friendly. But has no area to walk your dog on site . Has signs saying no dog fowling . Walked my dog off site where there is a fast dangerous road to the entrance with no pavement. Still nowhere safe to walk the dog . The site itself could do with some TLC. Lots of weeds in the gravel etc . Also the barrier to the site you had to ring a free number to open it . But I found this dangerous when you are towing a caravan & your caravan is still on the dangerous road next to a blind bend & cars using that road drive really fast . What if you don’t own a mobile phone ? A really weird set up ! Don’t understand how they have a high score on pitchup !

From the manager...

Thank you for the feedback
We allow dogs on site, but do not advertise a dog walking area. We are always happy to tell guests where there are great dog walking areas, but you didn't ask this in the many conversations you had with us. We purposely do not use weed killer on pitches when we know guests are bringing dogs as this is hazardous for them.
All of our guests love the system in place to phone the barrier as it means they are not having to leave the car to punch numbers into a keypad to exit the Park. In the last 6 years of using this system, we have never come across anyone who does not have a phone? We guide guests out of the Park and stop oncoming traffic if necessary to help you make a clear exit

Its always sad when guests leave a review that isn't consistent with majority of others, but we expected this as you almost burned out your clutch when trying to exit the site and blamed us for this, I had to ask both you and your wife to not blast your horns as you thought this was a good way to gain our attention rather than call the number displayed to alert us to your arrival., Your last minute booking was for the wrong sized pitch which was too small for your caravan but we didn't even mention this to you, just simply moved you to a larger pitch, and you didn't book in an extra car prior to arrival.

We always accept constructive criticism to try to improve, but your feedback is all regarding points that are clear on our information.

Clearly our site did not suit your needs, as many others do not according to your other reviews.

Loved that it’s not all rows and rows of caravans. A mixture of caravans, camper homes, cabins and shepherd huts. Super pitches are on upper level with amazing view toward Bodmin Moor and are fully serviced. We had our own shower/toilet but there were shower rooms/toilets on site (men’s and women’s) that were state of the art with blue border lighting and background music and all incredibly clean! Owners Tony & Carol were so friendly and helpful too!

    Disliked:

There wasn’t really anything to dislike. Only thing was it’s not far off the A38 so you can hear the drone if traffic if you’re sitting outside but wasn’t a problem.

Local attractions

Pine Green Caravan Park is well placed for explorations of Cornwall through the ages: start at Dozmary Pool on the Bodmin Moor, the fabled resting place of King Arthur’s Excalibur, find your way to the Moody Hurlers stone circle (ask obliging hosts Carol and Tony the story behind that one), then take a jaunt into Bodmin for the Courtroom Experience and Bodmin Jail.

Fancy some scenic grandeur? Try the stately homes of Lanhydrock, Cotehele, Antony and Lawrence House, all within roughly half an hour of the site. If that’s not floating your boat, row on over to the stunning Polperro – cars are banned in the coastal village, but it’s well worth abandoning modern modes of transport for a stroll around here and a poke through the Polperro Heritage Museum of Smuggling and Fishing.

Got kids in tow? Fire their imagination with visits to the fab Lost Gardens of Heligan, Carnglaze Slate Caverns and Jamaica Inn (a smuggling stronghold immortalised in the eponymous Daphne du Maurier novel), get them thinking about the environment at the Eden Project, and burn off all their remaining energy with trips to Hidden Valley, Adrenalin Quarry and Camel Creek Adventure Park. If that’s not enough for them, Crealy Adventure Park is about an hour and 15 minutes' drive away.
