Western Meadows Glamping: Sunset over meadow (photo added by manager on 10/10/2022)

General

  • Luxury glamping site in a flower meadow near Launceston in Cornwall
  • A 10-minute drive to Launceston Steam Railway; half an hour to beaches
  • Well-equipped safari tents with decking, hot tub and communal firepit

Chasing a little bit of luxury for your camping holiday? Look no further than Western Meadows Glamping, tucked away in wildflower meadows by the side of the Kensey river. Each pre-erected safari tent comes with a barbecue area on a covered veranda with – and here’s the real treat – private wood-burning hot tubs for you to enjoy after a day of adventures.

So, what do you get along with your cosy rural retreat? Quite a lot, actually. A welcome pack with tea, coffee, and all the basics, a variety of cereal and a little “surprise” for adults. All towels and bedding are provided, along with basic cleaning products like dish cloths and scourers.

Kids are welcome on site too, with a trampoline, swings and climbing frame for them to play safely on. Three communal firepit areas have river views and seating, so you can gather round in the evening to chat with fellow guests. Not feeling sociable? Simply retreat back to your own veranda.

Tents are powered by mains electricity, with hot and cold water in the kitchens and bathrooms (which have double-size showers, flush loos and basins) and the mains water is soft and good to drink.

Kindling for the firepits is available for free, and the owners also supply two large tubs of wood for the range cooker and hot tubs per week. Any further tubs are chargeable. Please leave cars (a maximum of two per tent) in the park at the field entrance, which is on hard-standing slate chippings; pull in facing the river near to the woodshed.

Excellent facilities with amazing attention to detail. Our safari tent had everything you could want or need. Comfy beds, made up with crisp clean bedding. Plenty of towels, blankets and tea towels etc. Tea, coffee, milk and sugar as well as gorgeous homemade scones, jam and clotted cream! There was a fabulous info manual to help light fires etc - and the hot tub was lit and warm all ready for us to use straight away. The location is stunning. Very peaceful and quiet. The gas bbq was fab, as was the firepit and woodburning stove. The wood bucket magically refilled itself and stargazing from the hot tub at night had to be the absolute highpoint for me. Our hosts, Colin and Margaret, couldn't have been nicer. They welcomed us helped with our luggage, talked us through lighting the hot tub and stove and were always available to offer help and advice. Never intrusive in anyway, but always ready with a cheery hello or chat. The Safari tent is in a good central location for visiting different places. We went to Tintagel, The Eden Project, West Pentire to see the poppies, Golitha Falls and Summerleaze beach (Bude) Fabulous beach with a sea pool, easy access and great facilities. We had a walk in the local area with beautiful views. A wonderful meal at the Eliot Arms. Fabulous fresh food and huge portions! We had a fabulous week at Western Meadows and would love to return. Thankyou Colin and Margaret.

Loved it! The owners gave a warm welcome, even took our luggage from the car to the cabin using a mower with trailer.
Home made scones, clotted cream and jam 🤗 AND a bottle of Prosecco!
Hot tub had been lit so nice and warm on our arrival. The kids absolutely loved the hot tub.
Everything inside was spotless, warm bedding and hot water bottles on standby if it gets cold in the evening.
The kids also found and enjoyed playing on the swings and trampoline.
Such a beautiful and quiet place…. Lovely to hear the owls in the evening.
100% recommend staying here. Cannot fault it. Plenty of space and everything you would need is there, just take your food. There is even a bbq there which we used one evening. Perfect.

Local attractions

Wild bird sightings are common around the site; buzzards, woodpeckers and sometimes – if you’re really quiet – kingfishers by the river. You can also fish for trout from the bridge – the river is fenced off, but access is at your own risk. There’s almost no light pollution either, so the stars in the night sky are very bright.

Launceston Steam Railway (10 minutes’ drive) runs daily during the holiday season, and it’s well worth exploring Launceston Castle’s hilltop ruins while you’re in town. Railway buffs might also enjoy the heritage trains on Bodmin and Wenford Railway (30 minutes).

The kids will nag to go to the beach, and there are several options for you. Widemouth Bay has long sandy beaches, and when the tide is out, Crakington Haven (both 30 minutes) is a treasure trove of rock pools and paddling. Both beaches are good for surfing, with life guards in attendance.

Further afield are the tropical gardens and desert regions of the Eden Project (45 minutes) and the gorgeous, romantic Lost Gardens of Heligan (an hour).

Must see

  • Tintagel Castle (15.7 miles)
  • National Marine Aquarium (22.4 miles)
  • Rock Beach (23.7 miles)
