  • Small and peaceful adults-only glampsite on a Cornwall working farm
  • Eden Project 45 minutes’ drive; The Lost Gardens of Heligan 55 minutes
  • Luxurious and eco-friendly pods with spectacular views to Bodmin Moor
Adults-only break in deepest, darkest Cornwall? A chance to glamp it up on a working farm? Longing for spectacular views across Bodmin Moor? Chances are you might find yourselves heading to Trewithen Farm Glamping, on the outskirts of the village of Laneast and 15 minutes’ drive from the shops and other amenities of Launceston. With just a few luxury pods set in a two-acre wildflower meadow – where 550 young saplings were planted in 2022 – on a sprawling livestock farm, this is a peaceful and restful glamping base with a backdrop of Cornwall’s famous ‘big skies’. Firmly in the countryside it may be, but it’s still only 25 minutes’ drive from the beaches, villages and towns of the county’s north or south coasts. Well-appointed accommodation kept cosy by underfloor heating is the order of the day, in wooden camping pods sleeping two adults in considerable comfort. Each features an ensuite wet room with a shower and heated towel rail, a luxury double divan bed with storage underneath, and a kitchenette with a double gas hob, microwave oven, fridge, dining table and chairs. Step outside to settle back on ‘zero gravity’ recliner chairs to contemplate the hills of Bodmin Moor and beyond. In the evening, cuddle up around the stone firepit and barbecue yourselves an alfresco feast for two.

Local attractions

Cornwall is chockablock with bucket-list sites, and first among equals is often the Eden Project (45 minutes’ drive), where you can wander among rainforests and Mediterranean vegetation in massive biospheres, clock all the wacky artworks about the place or take a private guided tour behind the scenes. The Lost Gardens of Heligan (55 minutes) are also not to be missed, with water features and sculpture trails on winding woodland footpaths down to the sea. Pretty north-coast villages that deserve attention include Padstow (50 minutes) for romantic Michelin-starred dinners (book well ahead of time), and Tintagel (half an hour) for explorations of the photogenic cliffside castle and Merlin’s Cave. Buzzy Port Isaac (35 minutes) has lots of cosy cafés and pubs around the fishing harbour to hunker down in, as well as famed film locations to spot (think Doc Martin and Fisherman’s Friends). Turning south, cute Polperro (55 minutes) is packed with art galleries and indie jewellery shops, and you can learn about the village’s nefarious history in the Polperro Heritage Museum of Smuggling and Fishing. Fowey (50 minutes) is another popular destination, with a large sandy beach and – if you feel the need to up the activity levels – lots of watersports along its namesake river estuary.
