  • Friendly family-run farm site 20 minutes' drive from Launceston
  • A 15-minute drive from the coast path and Crackington Haven beach
  • Buy fresh eggs and homemade sausages and burgers on site
Farm life… it’s all pony rides, fresh eggs and homemade sausages isn’t it? Well, it is at Pattacott Farm, a friendly family park in Cornwall, 20 minutes’ drive from Launceston. This is very much an active working farm, keeping an assorted menagerie of rare-breed sheep and pigs, a herd of cattle and free-roaming chickens in the grounds. A couple of ponies also live on site, and the folk that run the place are happy to arrange local lead rein rides for nippers who’d like to have a taster of riding during their stay. The collection of animals isn’t just for show, of course – they contribute to the range of tasty items available to buy, including eggs for your brekkie and homemade sausages or burgers for your barbecue (which you could serve up in homemade bread from the farm too). You might fancy a crack at building a campfire as well, and you’re welcome to do so for flame-grilled dinners or to keep you toasty as you gaze up into the starry skies (the heavens often glitter overhead out here as the area is far away from light pollution). If you’re not planning to live on a diet of burgers alone, extra supplies can be sourced at the shop four miles away or in the supermarkets of Launceston and Bude (20 minutes). Once essentials are sorted, it’s time to plan for your activities: keep it local with a good rural ramble on the network of footpaths that runs nearby or make the 15-minute jaunt to the coast for more walks, beach days, surfing and legend-learning at Tintagel Castle (25 minutes).

Bell tent

Liked Moved us to a better tent after highlighting not happy with first bell tents due to poor cleanliness when arrived.
Owner did call afterwards and tried to explain (1hr later).
Some views were great

Disliked Bell tent had doors left open where many insects entered (earwigs/spiders/flys) when we arrived, tent had mould on canopy as well as old dirty tissues inside, our daughter didn’t want to stay and felt uncomfortable as did us.
After calling owners we were informed that there was music lessons occurring where students seemed to be more important, therefore significant delay in swapping tents. We understand that other things do occur however if you are running a business then I would expect paying customers would take a priority which didn’t occur on this occasion.
Small ovens provided in horse box very old which we didn’t touch. Toilets not level
Partial views of old rusty sheds on a working farm.
We stayed at a different location on way down that was significantly cheaper and much better equipped in Padstow than this location here.
Overall disappointing!

Bell tent

Liked Lovely working farm in north Cornwall, quite easy to find with satnav. Sue and Kevin came round and welcomed us and made sure we had everything we needed for a lovely stay. We had our two little dogs with us and there was plenty of space in the bell tent for the 4 of us! Lovely double/queen sized bed as well as a futon for more seating/sleeping area. Sue had chairs set up around the fire pit which we thought was a lovely little touch when we pulled up. Our tent overlooked the sheep which our pups loved and it was nice and relaxing to watch them graze whilst enjoying some bbq at the picnic bench.

The showers, whilst a bit small, were lovely! Nice and clean and water temperatures were lovely and warm/ hot. There was a washing up area to the side of the toilet/shower blocks and these were stocked with washing up liquid which is great as I tend to forget to pack that!

If staying in the bell tents be mindful there are no electrics but there are fairy lights inside the tents and they do provide you with a cool box which is a nice touch.

There are fully stocked camping kitchens in the horse boxes in the centre of the bell tent area, these have stoves, kettles, cutting boards, as well as cups, plates, cutlery, and even a corkscrew so you can open your wine to enjoy by the campfire!

When you book in Sue and Kev send out an email with everything you need to know about the site such as locating the camping areas and they also sell home made and fresh meats, bread, and eggs which we didn’t purchase but thought was a lovely touch!

Disliked The road leading into the farm is very bumpy so I’d advise going under 10mph if you’d like to keep tyres intact.

Again, it’s a working farm so no complaints here! 😊

Electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked Nice quiet location

Disliked wasn't clear where to pitch our tent, hardly any animals you could see or pony rides offered as ad says. We got shouted at by farmer Kev at nearly 11pm after he didnt get his facts straight and came accusing us of being in the sheep field at night and chasing the sheep ( whose going through fields in darkness?!) after his wife (sue) had told us earlier in the day we could go in that field as the sheep were tame and we went in there alot earlier but couldn't go near sheep as they ran away from us. At one point we were told "if you go near them again, you'll be asked to pack your stuff and leave!" This ruined our break and we left the next day - a day early with no apology from sue or Kevin (although the family next to us got an apology for getting shouted at when they thought they had been in the field) an appalling way to treat paying guests! ok facilities but we will not be returning!

From the manager: This was a dreadful situation . It certainly wasn’t 11pm . We were just about to eat a very late supper at 9.30 and we received a text from another camper asking us to come up as a group of children were worrying the sheep really badly and chasing them round the field . ! We dashed up as this behaviour is totally unacceptable and cruel .
I did say that they could walk in to look at the sheep . Their behaviour means that no one else will be allowed in the field with them again .
This is just common sense they were not small young children and should have known better .
Kevin was livid .
I am sorry that they thought there were pony rides .
They didn’t mention that to me during their stay .
Sadly the ponies have both died of old age and we haven’t done this for several years.
The children also dragged branches of wood into the pitches and just left them there for other people to run over in their cars.
We were quite glad that they left early although there was no need . I had a polite conversation with
The Mum the next morning and there was no pressure to leave.

We stayed in our tent the toilets and shower was very clean…

Electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked We stayed in our tent the toilets and shower was very clean sue and her husband was very helpful it was so peaceful and quiet on site it was nice being back on a working farm .sue showed us where the dog walking field was it was 20 acre for them too run around in they loved it .overall it was a lovely break after losing my mum middle part of the year it was nice too get away. And could not fault where we where .the only downside was because of the weather our tent got flooded so we had to pack up a day early. I would definitely go back again.

Disliked If I really wanted too nick pick and this is the only thing the washing up station when raining could do with a shelter over it but too b fair we worked it out .

Electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked Very quiet site, fantastic views across the countryside. Kev and Sue very friendly.

Disliked Only two toilets for the whole site, and at the time only one sink for washing of dishes (although they were in the process of fitting a second sink), no protection from the wind, but this would then stop the fantastic views.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review . Sorry that the weather was so awful for you . It was great to have you.
Just to correct though we have 2 toilets at the bottom of the site too . So 4 all together .
We planned to extend the block to add two more toilets but this year , other than bank holiday it’s been so quiet we couldn’t afford to do it. We will keep improving as we can.

Will recommend to anyone, clean site, friendly staff, great views.

Electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked Our idea of a perfect remote camping spot with incredible views of the night skies.
Really surprised about the bad reviews regarding animals/flies! It’s a working farm! We loved our visits from the dogs, geese and even a sheep.
Dogs were also great with my dog!
Kev and sue were super accommodating, always contactable and responsive, even changing dates when our van broke down and pulling us out of the mud after some unexpected heavy rain.
Electric/water/toilet/shower all great but we loved the remoteness and even had the field to ourselves for the 2 nights.
You can even buy fresh farm produce from them!
Good phone signal if you need it unlike some of the other campsites were stayed by nearby.
Idyllic.

Disliked Nothing - wouldn’t stay on a farm if you’re not okay with animals and a few flies!

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked Lovely location and pleasant views from the site, owner seemed lovely on the phone and the farm produce I purchased (eggs, bacon and sausages) were delicious!

Disliked Owner said that she’d tried to contact me in advance, as they would be out that evening, but didn’t receive the email (even in junk folder) and only one missed call but no answerphone message left. It meant that when I arrived, I didn’t know where to go (sign had blown over in the gale), but did manage to get hold of her after a few attempts and all then resolved.
