  • Spacious site on a working farm on Cornwall’s Lizard Peninsula
  • Kennack Sands five minutes’ drive; St Michael’s Mount half an hour
  • Café and food shop on site; firepits and barbecues; farm animals
Rural idyll or beach holiday? If you can’t make up your mind, you can hedge your bets at Trerise Farm Campsite, a spacious, peaceful spot surrounded by the vast Cornish countryside – and a mere five-minute drive (or a half-hour’s walk) from the spectacular coastline of the Lizard Peninsula and beaches like Kennack Sands. Start by choosing your own pitch over the several fields available, then head over to the on-site café to check in, say hi to the owners and stock up on tasty snacks and drinks. A farm shop on site sells basic provisions, including farm-reared meat; if you need more supplies for your barbecue, there’s a convenience store in the village of Ruan Minor (five minutes’ drive) or in Mullion (10 minutes). And if you fancy a break from cooking, there are restaurants (plus shops and supermarkets) in the medium-sized town of Helston (20 minutes). Your canine buddies are welcome to join you (and Kennack Sands East is a dog-friendly beach), but please make sure that they’re kept on leads and under control at all times. This is, after all, a working farm, and you’re likely to come across chickens, goats, miniature ponies, pigs and geese during your stay. All of the farm animals are friendly and curious, but mind your fingers if you want to fuss them. Firepits are allowed, and you can buy a fire bucket, wood and kindling straight from the site. Facilities include toilets, showers, waste disposal and a washing-up point.

Liked: What a wonderfully quaint stay! Everything about it from the fabulous hosts, Natalie and her partner, (my apologies, I never caught your name!), to the on site animals, the cafe to the sheer size of the site. What value for money! I highly recommend going down to the cafe for breakfast at the very least. Not only for the food but hilarious stories such as two-day misplaced vehicles! Still, chuckling writing this. The facilities were top motch and the location was perfect! Can't recommend enough!

Liked: I recently stayed at Trerise Farm Campsite and can’t recommend it highly enough! Nestled in the heart of Cornwall, this campsite is a hidden gem that offers the perfect blend of peace, natural beauty, and convenience. Location: The campsite’s location is unbeatable. Set in the picturesque countryside of Ruan Minor, it’s just a short drive from Helston and close to some of Cornwall’s most stunning coastal spots. The nearby coves and beaches are breathtaking, and there’s easy access to scenic walking trails. Facilities: Trerise Farm has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The facilities are spotless and well-maintained, with clean showers, toilets, and washing areas. There’s also a lovely little shop on-site for essentials, and the farm-fresh produce is a treat! Atmosphere: What really sets Trerise Farm apart is its peaceful and friendly atmosphere. The owners are incredibly welcoming and go out of their way to make sure your stay is perfect. It’s a family-friendly site, with plenty of space for kids to play, yet it also feels intimate and secluded, perfect for couples or solo travelers looking to unwind. Pitch Quality: The pitches are spacious, level, and offer beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. Whether you’re in a tent or a caravan, you’ll have plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the tranquility. Wildlife & Nature: If you love nature, this is the place for you. The site is surrounded by wildlife, and the morning birdsong is a lovely way to start the day. Watching the sunset over the fields is magical. Final Thoughts: Trerise Farm Campsite is a little slice of paradise in Cornwall. It’s clear that the owners take great pride in their site, and it shows in every detail. Whether you’re exploring the local area or just relaxing on-site, you’re guaranteed a wonderful stay. I can’t wait to return!

Liked: This is a beautiful, simple site in spectacular countryside. The facilities were basic, but clean and ideal for us, and there was always hot water. The animal field was lovely, even without having any children with us! The shop and cafe open each morning were really nice, with a lovely touch of a little honesty shop outside for a few provisions when the shop was closed. The owners were really helpful and friendly. We missed the August weekly Saturday evening pizza night, as we arrived on Sunday, but the tables were still laid out and there had been a craft sale that day too, which I'm sure would have been really enjoyable.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: We stayed at Trerise for a week after being recommended it by friends and family. We were visiting family in Ruan Minor whereI grew up. Trerise was a great campsite to stay at, we arrived on a Saturday and enjoyed pizza from the wood fire onsite and so lovely cider from the horse trailer. We decided to pitch in the 2nd field. The whole campsite was mowed in such a way you'd only have someone to the side of you and not to the front. You are never more than a few minutes walk from the water tap or the shower, sink and toilet facilities. The water was always hot throughout for washing up. With the toilets and showers being very clean and often seeing staff cleaning them. Since coming home I've missed how great the shower is pressure and heat wise compared to other electric showers at other sites. The large chest freezer and sockets if needed being available 24/7 for no extra cost was a fab bonus. The satfd were very friendly in the cafe/shop with a great food and very reasonably priced supplies if you have forgotten anything. Also having goat, sheep and chicken food to buy to feed the animals whether you're an adult or child is good fun. The area is a short walk to Goonhilly Downs and just up from the beautiful Kennack sands as well as Poltesco and Carleon Cove. If you don't want to cook you're only a short drive to the Lizard for fish and chips, pubs, Mexican and other restaurants. If you have a car Helford river is a short punt away as well as Gears Pastys which are well worth the order. On a whole I would without a doubt recommend to stay here and would stay again. If you're a stargazer the views are unreal on a clear night. If you're looking to switch off and wnjoy the peace and quiet minus the general farm animal noises look no further!!

Liked: The site is spacious, relaxed and tranquil. Myself and my daughter (6) really enjoyed our stay here. Freedom to pitch where you like, nice showers and toilets cleaned regularly and well ventilated. The cafe is lovely with a good menu and local crafts for sale. My daughter loved feeding the animals in the next field. Don't have to worry about checking out times, so not a rush in the morning. Will definitely visit again. Thank you 💚

Disliked: Nothing to dislike, the shower was a little hot for my daughter but we managed.

Local attractions

Are you up for a bracing hike along the South West Coast Path? You can join this long-distance trail at Kennack Sands and head west, towards Great Britain’s southernmost spot, Lizard Point (two hours on foot; or 15 minutes’ drive). Take in views of the Atlantic Ocean and keep your eyes peeled for seals. Head to the town of Marazion (40 minutes) and wait for low tide, perhaps killing a few hours at RSPB Marazion Marsh, home to herons and egrets. Then walk along the causeway to St Michael’s Mount, a small, green island topped by a centuries-old castle. The harbourside National Maritime Museum Cornwall in Falmouth (40 minutes) has interesting displays on the local nautical heritage (plus temporary exhibitions on related subjects, including pirates and tattoos). From Falmouth you can also catch a ferry across the river estuary to St Mawes Castle, built by Henry VIII in the 16th century.
