Time for relaxation

General

  • Secluded, peaceful park in a rural setting a few miles from Praa Sands
  • Within 30 minutes' drive of Land's End, the Eden Project and Falmouth
  • Two-acre dog exercise area, nature trail, games field and play barn

Avoid the madding crowds on your summer sojourn to Cornwall and stay at this green, secluded and peaceful park instead: Lower Polladras Touring Park has had previous guests waxing lyrical about its peace, its quiet, its lovely location and its very friendly owners Carole and Graham.

The park is in a rural setting four miles from the beaches of Cornwall’s south coast and within easy reach of coastal and countryside walks. It’s in a top spot too for south-west Cornwall explores with Penzance, the Lizard Peninsula and Land’s End no more than half an hour’s drive away. Yet blissful peace will always be yours when you potter back to pitch, as Lower Polladras is set over four acres and has no noisy bar, clubhouse or evening entertainment.

Carole and Graham are environmentally minded and are always improving the park to make it as green and sustainable as possible: low wattage bulbs are used throughout and recycling is paramount. Heaps of info is displayed about non-car ways of getting around the local area, in the form of bus timetables on display and details of walks from the park given to all guests, and the well thought-out nature trail leads to a games field with play barn, football goals and a climbing frame to wrestle the kids away from their consoles.

Dogs are welcome, and the two-acre exercise area on the edge of the park should keep Fido pretty stress-free too...

We had a friendly welcome on arrival. The site is beautifully tended, the pitches are screened by hedges and wildflower banks, it is very peaceful and there are lots of visiting birds. The facilities are very clean.

The position of the site was central to the area and enabled us to Falmouth, the Lizard, St Ives, St Michael's Mount etc.

Thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and highly recommend this site.

Me and my partner could find no fault with the campsite. It was absolutely beautiful. There was such a friendly atmosphere the lovely couple who run it were so welcoming. They were easy to talk to and so happy to help. Their on site shop was handy with a selection of things to buy. The facilities were clean and nice. The surrounding areas are beautiful, lots of public footpaths to explore. It was easy on a night time just before settling into bed to go to the grass area so the dogs could run around. The campsite was easy to locate and it was easy to get into the nearby villages. The pitches were spacious and level, lovely for the tent. We would 100% reccomend to others and we would use this campsite again if/when returning to the area.
Thank you for the lovely holiday.

    Disliked:

The only thing we can say we disliked had no relation to the camp site itself just the area around. It wasnt a dislike it was just a tad scary getting around in the car when we are used to roads big enough for 2 cars. So there was no dislikes really.

I was pleasantly surprised at how quiet the site was and how immaculate it was kept. The park was positioned away from the main touring area which allowed our children to play without the worry of disturbing other campers. Although rural, it is within easy reach of the main local attractions and superb coastline to the south. We enjoyed our stay so much that we have already made plans to return during the summer holidays! All in all, a pleasant, affordable and peaceful site that is well worth a visit.

    Disliked:

Narrow lanes that lead you to the site. Ok, unless you meet a fellow caravan-er!

Local attractions

Within half an hour or less you’ll reach most of the main highlights of south-west Cornwall as well as many beyond: the Eden Project, Flambards Theme Park, St Ives, Falmouth and the gardens of Glendurgan, Trebah and Trewithian are all close by, and the town of Helston, Cornwall’s second oldest (after Marazion), is three miles from the park.

Stunning beaches are all around: Praa Sands 10 minutes’ drive away; Sennen Cove and its consistent waves for surf, and Porthleven, Pollurian and Mullion for fishing, more watersporting and rockpooling.

From Porthkerris beach, towards Falmouth, you can learn to dive and look for the shore’s shipwrecks, while Kennack Sands and Kynance towards the Lizard are the ones to take the paintbox to. Newquay and the famed surf beaches of Cornwall’s north coast are within seven miles.

For walkies, take to the countryside around Lower Polladras using the park guides, or have some gorgeously scenic strolls along the South West Coast Path to Mullion, Marazion, Mousehole or Penzance.

On the north coast, try the eight-mile hike from Portreath to Godrevy, stopping off for blackberry ice cream or apple cake and clotted cream at the famed Hells Mouth café along the way.
