  • Family-run site a short walk from pubs in Ashton and Breage
  • A five-minute drive to Porthleven's beach, harbour and restaurants
  • Playground on site; firepits for hire and logs for sale
According to Greek mythology, the original ‘Elysian Fields’ were meadows, a haven that provided sanctuary and breathed new life into all those worthy of entering. While Cornwall's Elysian Fields are in no means mythological, they are a properly splendid place to unwind… Set between the little villages of Breage and Ashton, the family-run site has seven acres of space and scenic views towards Tregonning Hill, as well as distant glimpses of the sea and cliffs of the Lizard peninsula. Pitch up here and you’ll be able to stroll along quiet footpaths to the local villages or walk to the top of Tregonning Hill, which stands at 194 metres and gives views from coast to coast over west Cornwall, including Mount’s Bay and St Ives. More adventurous walkers can explore the Godolphin Estate, while those who’ve come along for the coast can take a short drive to the ancient harbour at Porthleven or gorgeous Praa Sands beach. The site has its own bar and restaurant, Tony's Tavern (open during high season only), with draught Cornish beers and cider. Cornish breakfasts and lighter breakfast baps are available in the mornings between 9am and 11am, and a range of evening meals are on offer between 6pm and 9pm. Takeaway meals can be delivered to the pitches if you prefer. To make your stay more comfortable, picnic benches, windbreaks and firepits can be hired, with a plentiful supply of kiln-dried logs on sale in the shop to help warm up cooler evenings. Also on site are a playground, a small shop (open during high season; opening hours are displayed on the door, but outside of those hours, the shop can also be opened upon request), a laundry room with coin-operated washing machines and a tumble dryer. Guests also have use of two large freezers, a fridge, an iron and ironing board, and a microwave.

What customers say

Elysian Fields is praised for its exceptional, clean, and uniquely designed shower facilities, spacious pitches, and friendly, helpful staff. Its convenient location makes it ideal for exploring Cornwall's beaches and attractions. The on-site tavern is a popular amenity. While most reviews are overwhelmingly positive, a few minor issues were noted, including occasional muddy pitches, inconsistent Wi-Fi, and some found the on-site shop expensive. Despite these minor points, many guests express a desire to return.

Electric grass pitch (XL)

Liked Coming from someone that only goes camping to make the rest of the family happy……This is by far the nicest camp site we have stayed on. All staff are very friendly.

The bathrooms are exceptional, very quirky, each with its own style and cleaned regularly throughout the day!!

The playground is an added bonus, my daughter loved making new friends there.

Lovely little bar (Tony’s Tavern) which had a nice garden area to enjoy a cold beer in the sunshine! The staff even went out of their way to russle us up a late night pizza after they had closed so we didn’t go without eating! Nothing was too much trouble.

Elysian Fields is within reach of many beaches and towns to visit.

The owner is friendly and has two German Shepard’s that barely leave his side and are absolutely no bother at all.

I would definitely recommend this site to friends.

Disliked Certain individuals let down our stay when they let there off lead ridgeback come and attack my rottie who was always on a lead, and tried to say his dog wanted to “play and sniff my dogs ass” and that we shouldn’t be walking our dog around the field like he owned it! (Growling and lunging onto my dogs face is not play!) I have a rottie, not a chihuahua, I think we know the difference between rough play and aggression!! That same ridgeback also attacked the most friendly frenchie two days prior who was also on a lead going for a walk.

Safe to say I had my fair share of words spoken!

Irresponsible owners are my pet hate!!

All dogs with the EXCEPTION of the owners Dogs (we are visiting their home) should be on leads at all times.

Electric grass pitch (super)

Liked Excellent space for the kids to play. The super pitch we had was large enough. Water and electric hook up very easy to access. Facilities were amazing. It was busy on the last couple of days we were there but still did not have to wait for toilet or shower. It never felt crowded and the staff were really friendly.
The table tennis table was great, there is a good pub on site and a small park a short walk away. A good location near Praa Sands and other great locations. Would definitely choose this site if we were to return to Cornwall.

Disliked The only thing I would look to improve would be a hand sanitiser dispenser in the toilets to improve the hygeine of the site. A minor improvement.

Electric grass pitch (large)

Liked Super site and great facilities including amazing showers.
The tavern is ok, we went one night and it was just us so seemed a little out of place, food ok.
Location is perfect.

Disliked Real downside for us was the pitch, it had lots of muddy patches which transferred into our tent especially when it rained. There were plenty of grass pitches around us so we should have asked to move really. Other than that we cannot fault the site, definitely we back.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (large)

Liked This is our 4th year staying at this site. We love it! We stayed for 7 nights traveled from St Helens. The staff are lovely Jackie goes above and beyond to make sure your stay is the best it can be. The food in Tony’s tavern is very nice the chef is very friendly. They also have been on tap so that’s a bonus. All the facilities are very clean and the site is well maintained all in all it’s a lovely site and would highly recommend it to family’s wanting to stay in Cornwall as it’s quite near everything that you would like to go see really so thank you again to all the staff at Elysian fields thank you for a lovely stay.

Disliked Not really a dislike the only thing is the shop doesn’t have strict opening times but it’s not really an issue. Also could do with some hand wash in the shower rooms.

Liked We had an amazing stay at Elysian Fields. Tony was a wonderful host offering lots of useful local information and welcoming us to his famous Tavern on site.
We loved the two local villages with pubs, each a few minutes walk away, as well as the beautiful Praa Sands which is only a five minute drive away.
The field is flat with plenty of shade and the electric hook up was simple to use. The shower blocks were a real highlight with plenty of hot water and unique individual and stylish design.
We will definitely be back!

Non-electric grass tent pitch (large)

Liked The chill vibe. It was quiet for a Saturday.

Great showers. Hot, unlimited water. Clean bathroom facilities with even a hairdryer!

Friendly locals passing by on the path around the site, stopping for a chat.

Wildlife: Some very brave robins coming to eat from our hands and we saw some bats in a nearby field.

Easy access to local pub in the next village (10 min walk) and quick drive to the big supermarket.

Near to the coast and some amazing walks.

Disliked Shame we couldn’t access the shop and bar which were both closed when we arrived (3pm Saturday).

Local attractions

Having gazed out over Tregonning Hill, it's a fine idea to amble over there for a closer look. It’ll take you around 45 minutes of leisurely walking to get to the top for some excellent views over both north and south coasts and plenty of historical info on the old mining pits and war memorial. Likewise, the beaches you’ve glimpsed from afar look pretty fab from up close too. The sands of Porthleven, three miles away, are the nearest, and there are plenty of others a short drive away, including Praa Sands and Marazion (from where you can take a boat or cross the causeway to St Michael’s Mount). Arty types may like to spend a day in St Ives, half an hour’s drive away, taking in the exhibits of Tate St Ives and the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden. Perhaps less highbrow but equally entertaining is the Cornish Seal Sanctuary in Gweek.
