Royal Standard Campsite Gwinear: Nearby beaches

General

  • Family-run pub site in the Cornwall village of Gwinear
  • A 10-minute drive from Hayle harbour and beaches; St Ives 20 minutes
  • Dog-friendly site; hot pub food to eat in or take away

Plant your flag on a prime plot of Cornish land at The Royal Standard Campsite Gwinear, a peaceful pub site in a quiet village 10 minutes' drive from the coast. This family-run spot also has the big benefit of being dog-friendly, and is home to two friendly Westies that are sure to run up and say hello.

Set in a green field – with occasionally clucking free-range chickens creating a bit of rural ambience – this site has plenty of pleasing views and outdoor furniture for lounging about alfresco-style. The kids are welcome to run around and get up to games in these spacious grounds, while young ones you want to keep a closer eye can be entertained at the site's small playground.

Low levels of light pollution mean the stars look particularly bright in this part of Cornwall, adding a little extra sparkle to evening barbecues or campfires (both of which are allowed). Don't look up too much though, or you might miss the nocturnal creatures like badgers and foxes that like to pass this way.

When the pub is open for business, tasty home-cooked meals are available to eat in or take away. There's also a small-scale food shop here if you don't feel like venturing off in search of essentials. That said, this site isn't far from local amenities if you do need to pick up provisions – West Cornwall Shopping Park, where there's a supermarket, café and pharmacy, is two miles away.

Please note

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, customers can amend their dates with the campsite/holiday park free of charge for all stays up to, and including, Sunday 5 September 2021.

We had a lovely stay at the Royal Standard Campsite …04/10/2021

We had a lovely stay at the Royal Standard Campsite Gwinear. The Campsite is just a short drive from Hayle, St Ives and the most incredible beach at Gwithian, great for surfing and areas for dog-walking. We were greeted on arrival and even though I had mis-booked the dates for our stay, the Campsite were able to accommodate us. It is a lovely quiet site and our pitch for the Campervan was much larger than we needed, we had electrical hook up. The toilets and showers were clean and well kept, the showers were powerful and hot. We would love to visit again.

anyone reading this review please see the photos other campsite left of the toilets before judging! However, this review is also honest, we are not flash, but do have clean toilets/showers and lashings of hot water in them! when they mean basic, they mean to look at from the outside!

Nice quiet location with a very friendly site team.

Clean toilets and showers combined in on site containers. Very practical.

    Disliked:

Access to and from the site off the main road is quite difficult in a large motor home.

From the manager...

Yes people take head! it is a tight entrance. We have had 12 metre campers in here but it is tight. we are happy to help you in and out, just ask. we would rather do this than you loose bumpers etc.
We are hoping to get permission to take part of wall away, but we are listed so don't hold out too much hope!

Friendly and helpful nice quiet site with pub close by.

Amenities were rather basic, shower toilet ports cabin kinda thing. Although clean and tidy

From the manager...

This is a rural 10 pitch campsite with hook up and toilet/shower facilities, waste disposal, washing up room and grey waste disposal. Pub on site. at £20 per night we are priced at the same as "just field with no facilities at all" i'm kind of wandering what else to say!
the toilets/showers are not portaloos and are ceramic toilets and free hot powerful showers with a sink and are for one person use (i.e. no one in the next cubicle) I'm struggling to work out what you mean by rather basic!
