Bodinnick Village & Car Ferry from Fowey

General

  • On the Fowey estuary with spectacular hill and valley views
  • Award-winning amenities plus well-stocked shop
  • Pub/waterfront café a short stroll away; kayaking and ferries close by

Simply messing about in boats is a breeze at Penmarlam Caravan and Camping Park, on the Fowey estuary in Cornwall.

Lucky enough to have your own boat? Launch it straight onto the sparkling waters from the slipway adjoining the site: it's owned by Fowey Harbour Commissioners who rent it out when required. More cabin boy/girl than captain? Test your sea legs by hiring a kayak nearby, or jump aboard one of the scenic ferries to Fowey and beyond.

Even if you're a confirmed landlubber, you’ll like the cut of this site's jib: the pitches are generous enough to give everyone a wide berth, and the facilities are most definitely shipshape; most guests wax lyrical about the clean and comfy amenities (as well as the 'very friendly' vibe, helpful owners, splendid location and all-round locale).

The park shop is full of kit and vittles at reasonable prices (also hailed as most excellent by chuffed guests), plus there's wifi (free for the first 20 minutes), immaculate showers and toilets, a laundry room, and an information centre to help you fathom out all the local attractions.

A good pub and a waterfront café are a stroll away so you can go with the flow when it comes to the catering too.

Please note

The grocery shop is open between 30/03 and 27/10.

The slipway next to the site is owned by Fowey Harbour Commissioners; there is a charge for its use.

Penmarlam was welcoming, clean and very easy to park. We loved that we could walk down to the little village, then catch the ferry across to Fowey as a foot passenger, stopping off back in the Old Ferry Inn on the way back for a pint before walking up the hill.

Very quiet and clean. Friendly staff very helpful. Little shop well stocked. The walk to the launch rap a little bit far on foot, good if you have a car. Launch ramp not really accessible with a motorhome. Lovely villages around to explore by (own) boat or you can hire one, up the river down the river into the sea ! Perfect place if you have your own (small) boat because the ferry to Fowey can become a bit expensive if you cross every day (£4 per trip for two, return £8)

Local attractions

Guests often give the car a few days off at Penmarlam Caravan and Camping Park and leg it around the alluring coastal paths instead: there are some gorgeous coves, cliffs and bays in the immediate vicinity. With excellent beaches within easy reach, this is prime territory for sea fishing trips and watersports of every description too.

Alternatively, it takes just a few minutes aboard the ferry from the neighbouring village of Bodinnick to reach the pretty town of Fowey, veritably buzzing during its annual regatta week in August, but a lively spot at any time of year with its cafés, pubs, shops and restaurants, and a popular family beach at Readymoney Cove.

The Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are the closest of the top attractions, both just a few miles away, but you’re really well placed at Penmarlam to reach all the top stuff of Cornwall: animal sanctuaries, historic homes and gardens, theme parks, castles, museums, and scenic towns such as Polperro and Looe.

Must see

  • Eden Project (6.5 miles)
  • Lost Gardens of Heligan (9.3 miles)
  • Cornwall's Crealy Great Adventure Park (16.8 miles)
