  • Simple pop-up site on a Cornwall farm 15 minutes’ drive from Falmouth
  • Flushing Beach 10 minutes’ drive; Pendennis Castle 15 minutes
  • Dog-friendly pitches; play area, shops and a pub five minutes’ walk
When simplicity is what you’re craving, you’ll find it – along with stunning views over Mylor Creek – at Tregoweth Farm Pop-up Campsite, 15 minutes’ drive from the lively seaside resort of Falmouth in Cornwall. Set on a peaceful working sheep farm, this laidback site welcomes dogs (please keep them on leads in the camping field due to livestock grazing nearby) – and is family friendly with lots of fun-filled days out within walking or driving distance. The sleepy village of Mylor Bridge (five minutes’ walk) has a welcoming pub, an essentials shop and a butcher (you can pick up meat for your barbecue here) as well as a grassy play area with football nets and swings. From there, you can walk along Mylor Creek to Restronguet (half an hour) and stop off at the village’s popular thatched seaside pub. Otherwise, the market town of Penryn (five minutes’ drive) has several restaurants, cafés, pubs and takeaways. Facilities on this scenic wild site are limited to portable loos, so come prepared for the fact that you will have no showers, no running water and no electricity on the camping field.

Local attractions

If you like the sounds of water-borne adventures, you can catch the ferry from Flushing (five minutes’ drive) over to Falmouth (15 minutes), packed with maritime history, shops and a variety of places to eat and drink. Once there, perhaps take a boat trip up the River Fal, or a cruise boat to Pendennis Point to look out for orca whales and dolphins. Cornwall’s only city, Truro (25 minutes) has an impressive Victorian Gothic cathedral to have a look around, as well as a couple of interesting museums and lively farmers’ and craft markets. If you’re not inclined towards urban days out, make for the woodland walks at Enys Gardens (10 minutes), or the riverside strolls at National Trust-owned Trelissick. When you’re travelling with the kids, take part in jousting and other medieval-themed activities at Pendennis Castle (15 minutes), perched on a clifftop over the sea. Your offspring will probably be equally pleased with a meet-and-greet with the donkeys at The Flicka Foundation Donkey Sanctuary (10 minutes), or a day on the sands at Flushing Beach (10 minutes).
