  • Quiet family-run site 15 minutes' walk from Coverack
  • A 15-minute drive to Cadgwith or 25 minutes to Kynance Cove
  • Simple, spacious and level pitches; dogs welcome
The lovely Lizard Peninsula Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty beckons for guests at Specky Wood, a quiet and well-kept site within the grounds of a family home close to Coverack. This is a gorgeous part of the world, with lots of wild scenery, sandy beaches and craggy coastline to explore, and plenty of activities in the form of watersports, walks and bike rides. It’s a 15-minute walk from the site to the centre of Coverack for a village store, a café, a pub and a restaurant. There’s also a watersports centre here, and you can pick up the South West Coast Path for a good hike along the shoreline. That little lot may well keep you busy for a while, but there’s plenty more to explore nearby if you’ve got time – the beaches of Kennack Sands and Kynance Cove are rightly popular, as are fishing villages like Mullion and Cadgwith. Heading up towards Helston (20 minutes’ drive) also gives you the option of different days out like visits to Flambards Theme Park, Trebah Garden or the Cornish Seal Sanctuary. The setup back on site is a simple one – the dog-friendly pitches are spacious, level and well kept but it’s worth noting that there are no toilets or showers on site.

Liked: The owners were very friendly and we felt very welcome.

Disliked: Maybe access to the on site showers/toilets would have been nice. Having said this we were told when booking that facilities were not available.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: This is a really good site, we booked a hard standing pitch but were told we could go use the grass pitch of we wanted to. The pitches seemed to be in small groups with large hedges around them. The usual facilities were available, electric, water, eslan etc. The owners were really nice and welcoming. There was a chip shop and a pub that serves food with great views and a harbour about 25-30 mins walk, best visited by walking as there's no parking really and a very steep hill at the end.

Disliked: Nothing

Liked: Very flat, very quiet and great hosts who were extremely helpful. About a mile walk to the coast and beautiful beach and gorgeous village. Also specific field for the dog and kids to play where we found tadpoles in a drainage channel!

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: We were greeted with a smile and felt welcomed. My family found the owners to be friendly and at home in the surroundings we will definitely return again to this wonderful campsite. Dogs are welcome and we enjoyed the 15 min walk to the harbour . There’s also a 8-10 min drive to roskilly farm. A peaceful place in a beautiful area of cornwall

Local attractions

No doubt you’ll start your Cornwall break by wandering down to Coverack (15 minutes’ walk), where you can take a look at the boats bobbing in the harbour or launch your own adventures from the watersports centre, which has paddleboarding, kayaking and windsurfing on the menu. The village is also at the centre of a couple of circular walks as well as being on the South West Coast Path for seaside strolls (such as the stretch to Kennack Sands, six miles away). Elsewhere along the coast, you may like to cycle or drive to hotspots like the tiny fishing village of Cadgwith (15 minutes’ drive), pretty Kynance Cove (25 minutes) or Mullion (20 minutes), the largest village on the Lizard Peninsula. It’s also worth heading down to Lizard Point (25 minutes), so you can say you’ve stood at the southernmost point of mainland Britain. There are lots of little hidden corners to discover around the peninsula too, but if you fancy a change of scenery, perhaps you’d like to take a river cruise from Helford (20 minutes), meet the residents of the Cornish Seal Sanctuary (15 minutes), head to Flambards Theme Park (15 minutes) for all sorts of rides and attractions (including some handy indoor attractions) or stroll through subtropical Trebah Garden (35 minutes).
