  • Eco-friendly Cornwall countryside site with its own livery
  • A 10-minute drive from Camborne and 20 to Hayle and Porthleven beaches
  • Within 15 minutes' drive of Flambards, Paradise Park and Poldark
Ahhh, Cornwall: it’s a cracker. And Trevolankan Farm, a 10-minute drive from the town of Camborne? Truly a fab place to stay in this fine English county. A well-maintained and peaceful site, Trevolankan is on a rare-breed farm and is boosted by environmental credentials in the form of composting toilets, eco-friendly showers, solar lighting and water sourced from its own borehole. It’s also in grassy surrounds with sea views in the distance, under a 25-minute drive from the coastline of St Ives Bay. On site a livery means you can bring your horse along for a break… but if you’ve not got pets, you can still have some animal antics during your trip with a glimpse of the rare breeds reared on the farm, from hefty Gloucestershire Old Spot pigs to Valais blacknose sheep (which are also up for sale if you want to have a go at caring for your own…). If that sounds like a little too much effort, head over to Paradise Park animal park (15 minutes’ drive away) for meets and greets with 130 species including pygmy goats and penguins, as well as chances to check out tropical birds like toucans and kookaburras along with local red-billed Cornish choughs. The play centre at Paradise is popular with kids; treat them to a runaround followed with a go on the rides at Flambards Theme Park, a 15-minute drive from the site. Small sorts also tend to be taken with the creatures at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, 20 minutes away…

Local attractions

When in Cornwall, it’d be a crime not to lope around the local beaches – so journey over to Hayle and Porthleven, both under a 25-minute drive away, to swim in the sea and bask on the sand. If skin needs protecting from the rays, get underground at the Poldark Mine & The Cornish Heritage Collection (10 minutes), an old tin mine where explores can be embarked on. Back out the open, ambles around the woodland, coastline and parkland of Penrose’s National Trust lakeside estate are 15 minutes by car, while the island of St Michael’s Mount (25 minutes) can be accessed via a manmade granite causeway (depending on the tide times) for seaside strolls. Keeping to the coast, the fab town of St Ives – a go-to for art galleries and seal-spotting boat trips – is 25 minutes' drive away.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Small site, rural location

Disliked: No hot water tap for washing up. Only one hose tap for all water which sprayed everywhere when turned on.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Setting - with only 4 pitches, it's a very quiet campsite in beautiful surroundings, pretty chilled out and relaxing. Minimal carbon footprint - your footprint will be minimal as the facilities are pretty basic and eco-friendly (compostable toilet, water from the shower comes from a tank, no electricity on site, no hot water other than in the shower) Supplies - you can buy eggs and wood from the farm but there were no other things available to purchase from the farm shop when we were there. Pitches - good size and level pitches nicely delimited, also, there are at least 2 fire pits onsite that you can use. Family run - Rob and his kids were very nice and welcoming. Needs covered - the campsite covered all our needs, and it's a lovely site but we found it a bit too basic for us. Also, we felt some things were in need of a bit of TLC (Chickinn, Sunset/Sundown signage, farm shop, bins). Farm animals - we loved so much the sheep and horses in the back field. We visited the horses every day, hopefully they enjoyed the attention.

Disliked: Recycling facilities - sadly there are no recycling facilities onsite. Running water - there's a tap with drinking water in the open, however, there was no sheltered sink/basin with running water for doing the washing up, washing your face, or brushing your teeth, therefore, it was a little bit of a mission at times, particularly when it was raining. Shower - you have to ask the owners to regulate the temperature of the water for you, which can be a nuisance as some of us like it chillier than others, so not very practical to be asking them all the time. Also, for the first few days, we showered with the water from the tank which had waterbugs, needless to say that wasn't nice at all. A few days later the owner changed it and we showered with running water from the main tap outside, bye waterbugs!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Owners were so welcoming and friendly, and our dog Nero loved playing & getting treats from them! Lots to do around the location, it's beautiful, right in the countryside, with horses and cows nearby. Loved seeing the owners sheep, two gorgeous little lambs and chickens & ducks close to the tent pitches. Was lovely to wake up to! Shower cubicle and compost toilet was always kept clean and tidy. Would 100% stay here again! Would also recommend visiting Porthleven (15mins from campsite) lovely little shops and pop up shops in beach huts, dog friendly pubs and cafe, and all located in a beautiful harbour.
