Summit Camping: Double tent to rent

General

  • Basic field camping with amazing views over Cornwall’s Tamar Valley
  • A 25-minute drive to Dartmoor National Park; 45 to The Eden Project
  • Direct access to Kit Hill; farm shop and village cider pubs walkable

Summit Camping offers outstanding views from grass camping fields sheltered by Cornish hedges and trees. What will you see from your back-to-basics pitch? The Tamar Valley for starters, with the river glistening in the distance, as well as the Caradon Downs, Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor National Park.

You have direct access to Kit Hill country park from the site, where you can wander freely over four hundred acres, spotting wild ponies and birds of prey – and there’s even a freshwater quarry lake for a wild swim.

The historians among you can seek out neolithic remains at Minions (20 minutes’ drive), and as site is in Poldark Country, you can potter around the lonely ruins of Cornwall’s tin and copper mining heritage or nose around the historic quay and working mill at National Trust-owned Cotehele House (10 minutes).

Plymouth (30 minutes) is also steeped in history, and you can imagine Sir Francis Drake’s legendary bowls match on the Hoe or visit the ship that took the Pilgrim Fathers to America in 1620 at The Mayflower Story.

Pick up bits and bobs for the barbecue in Callington (five minutes) farm shops or do a major restock in Tavistock (20 minutes), with several handy supermarkets as well as plenty of pubs, party shops and pizzerias if you want a rest from cooking. You also have a choice of smashing pubs within a ten-minute drive of the camping field, offering fab Cornish views along with real ale and live music.

The lovely people running the site, the option to pitch where we liked (we were given excellent guidance for the best views), the information on the surrounding area and where to go locally on trips out. Also the lovely welcome packs with tea, coffee and jam!

    Disliked:

Portaloos - would have liked to be able to clean the wet floors out before entering.

Hi Rachel, Thank you for your lovely review we are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay x I do apologise for the portaloo floors it is my fault because I am a bit MOP happy up there trying to keep them all extra clean at the moment and to be fair the weathers been a bit against us in drying them naturally :S, but the wet was my anti bac cleaning.

Hi Michael, thank you for your review and for booking Summit. It was lovely to meet you both and we are glad that you enjoyed Kit Hill. As we have only just opened our Pop up site it would be really useful to have your feed back on what else we can provide to improve our facilities/activities. Take Care, Cheers Tracy
