Countryside setting and family-friendly atmosphere

  • Family park set over 50 acres on a hilltop overlooking Widemouth Bay
  • A short drive from the surf schools and beach at Bude
  • Free heated pool, free wifi, clubhouse, kids' club and bar
Free! The price of zilch is what you’ll pay to keep the kids happy at Widemouth Bay Caravan Park a few miles from Bude, which is bound to result in wide-mouthed grins for all concerned... This large and lively family park has kids’ clubs run by the cunning Foxy, free evening entertainment by the Stripey Coats, crazy golf to go loopy at and an indoor heated pool, which are also…free. As is the wifi in the clubhouse. Huzzah. Widemouth Bay Caravan Park’s location is also pretty smilesome: on a hilltop overlooking the Cornish countryside and the fab Widemouth Bay with its three miles of sand. There are over 50 acres to lose yourself in around the park and pretend you never have to go home, with the takeaway, well-stocked shop and tasty meals at the bar keeping you sorted for nosh and a launderette looking after the essentials. Looking for yet more things to do on site? Challenge the kids on the amusements or show them how to hustle on the pool table – letting them beat you should result in even more wide smiles…

What customers say

This campsite offers beautiful sea views and a great location, with many guests highlighting the friendly and helpful staff. Facilities are generally considered clean and well-maintained, particularly the new shower blocks. Families appreciate the on-site entertainment and activities for children. However, a significant number of reviews mention that most pitches are on slopes, which can be uncomfortable. Some guests also noted issues with the cleanliness and upkeep of older facilities, the distance to amenities from some pitches, and occasional noise.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely site great location for many lovely places and really close to Bude and it's gorgeous town and beaches. Pitches are a good size, some fabulous views. Toilet block and showers are a little dated but well maintained although relying on the young staff to keep them clean means that sometimes they are a little grubby. Would definitely stay here again though because it's so convenient

Disliked A little more attention to the cleaning in the toilet block.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked The site and facilities were clean and very convenient to a number of fine beaches. The site attendant or ranger was so helpful but we didn't get the same feeling from the reception staff particularly when we enquired on 3 separate days about the WiFi at the main clubhouse which we couldn't access.

Disliked The food on site wasn't great to be honest

Electric grass tent pitch (large)

Liked The club house and location

Disliked Staff were not very helpful on the camping area.
I was told I could have had a smaller pitch but the weren’t prepared to change pitch to save me some money.
Then like I said there were so many empty pitches so I don’t understand why we were pitched next to 3 families as a group of people with there dogs and there music playing till all hours.
Plus there was only one toilet block to this big camp site that was a good distance away and through the night you can imagine what it was like.
Also we were alarmed at the two security guards hanging about.
We didn’t feel wanted or safe so we only stayed the one night out of our two.
And don’t expect to be able to swap ice packs it’s a no no .

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked The overall vibe of the site was friendly and in general the facilities made the stay enjoyable. The toilet/ shower block was particularly well kept, new-looking and clean. The swimming pool was moderately well kept and clean and was nice and accessible for days spent on the site. The veiws and sunsets from the top of the hill were impeccable and stunning as you could see straight to the ocean. We very much enjoyed our time spent in the Drifters entertainment and the food at Chef’s Corner was substantial and provided options for vegans as well as gluten free individuals. The customer service when ordering food was particularly memorable.

Disliked The activities on offer were fun however the minigolf was slightly impractical for the less abled golfers as the condition of the greens were not ideally flat. The pool had a slight cloud to it. The site is located on a hill and staying at the top of it made the trek to the pitch quite a hike and expended lots of energy after a long day but I guess that is the price you have to pay for such beautiful views. The location of the site is only a short bus ride from Bude but we also found within the closer area there was not much to occupy ourselves with when we wanted to leave the campsite. The pitch that we were designated to camp on was on a slight incline unfortunately.

Local attractions

Widemouth Bay is where you’ll find the surf: if you’re new to launching yourself happily into the waves there are surf and bodyboarding schools dotted all around here and Bude, and Newquay is within 50 minutes' drive. Bude less than 10 minutes by car has a couple of excellent beaches: Summerleaze, to have a dip in the sea pool at the bottom of the cliffs and to bag a beach hut for hire so you can pretend for one fleeting afternoon that it’s your very own, and Crooklets, which you can reach by a short stroll from Summerleaze Down. Both beaches, and the sea pool at Summerleaze, are lifeguarded. The staff at Widemouth Bay Caravan Park recommends a car to see the best of Cornwall, but you won’t have very far to drive to reach most of the main hotspots: the Eden Project is about 50 minutes away, and Tintagel, legendary home of King Arthur and Merlin, is just along the coast.
