Peaceful countryside setting

Rural views
Plenty of space for privacy

  • Peaceful back-to-basics site on a working farm in north Cornwall
  • A 10-minute drive from the beaches and watersports of Bude
  • Barbecues welcome on site and farm shops within a 10-minute drive
So... you want a peaceful rural retreat surrounded by open farmland? And you’d like to be only about a 10-minute drive from the seaside? Then you’ll be wanting a word with Farmer Phil, a cheery chap who’s clearly got an eye for location. Farmer Phil’s Campsite is about as country as they come, being a 75-acre farm with cows and sheep, and surrounded by quiet farmland. Farm shops and a supermarket are about a 10-minute drive away, and you’re welcome to light up a barbecue back at your peaceful farm base. And those beaches? Well, they’re the fine specimens in and around Bude, around 10 minutes’ drive away. There’s surfing, golf, watersports and walking trails galore in and around town too, and the local area is equally well supplied with family-friendly days out. Being a fan of quiet countryside times, Farmer Phil hasn’t overly developed his site, installing just the essentials in his amenities area: toilet and shower facilities, plus a washing-up area.

What customers say

This campsite offers a peaceful, spacious experience with friendly owners, particularly Farmer Phil. Facilities, including hot showers and a kitchen with appliances, are generally considered adequate and good value, though some mention they are basic and could benefit from updating. Animal noises are expected due to the farm setting. While some found staff minimal, others praised their helpfulness and flexibility, especially for late arrivals. Issues with pitch allocation and shower water pressure have been noted.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Really lovely basic site. Just a field with real toilets and showers and also a kitchen with a fridge/ freezer, microwaves, toaster and kettle. A big bonus in my opinion. My kids loved it, it was quiet even though the cows are a great alarm clock and my daughter went to see the animals every day. The two goats seem more like two pet dogs…
Perfect area for exploring the lush north coast and you can find beaches with barely any people on even in August.

Disliked The loos and showers weren’t spotless but they were clean… housed many lovely insects and creatures and that had its own charm. No issues at all.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked All your practical needs are covered. There's hot showers, hot water from the tap, drinking water, clean toilets, plenty of toilet roll, plenty of liquid soap, a washing machine and all in a well-lit area. I also enjoyed all the different birds I saw around the site.

Disliked I wouldn't say I had strong dislike feelings about anything but the access road is unsurfaced and a bit ropey for non 4wd vehicles.

Liked Great campsite. Friendly owner. Nothing is too much trouble

Disliked Site was busy so water pressure in the shower wasn’t good on day one but if you shower at quieter times it’s all good

Local attractions

Let’s start with those beaches: the coastline around Bude is a bit of a stunner, with lots of great sandy swathes to visit. Many are dog-friendly, and several are fab for surfing – learn the technique at one of the surf schools around Summerleaze beach or catch the waves at Widemouth Bay or Northcott Mouth. That’s not it for aquatic activity though – Bude’s also a great spot for canoeing, windsurfing and coasteering, and Tamar Lakes is 20 minutes away for carp fishing and various watersports activities and lessons. Sticking to dry land, there’s a golf course in Bude and a riding centre around a 20-minute drive away for woodland trots and beachy canters. Nipper-friendly attractions within half an hour or so include the Milky Way Adventure Park and the Tamar Otter and Wildlife Centre.
