  • Peaceful back-to-basics site on a working farm in north Cornwall
  • A 10-minute drive from the beaches and watersports of Bude
  • Barbecues welcome on site and farm shops within a 10-minute drive
So... you want a peaceful rural retreat surrounded by open farmland? And you’d like to be only about a 10-minute drive from the seaside? Then you’ll be wanting a word with Farmer Phil, a cheery chap who’s clearly got an eye for location. Farmer Phil’s Campsite is about as country as they come, being a 75-acre farm with cows and sheep, and surrounded by quiet farmland. Farm shops and a supermarket are about a 10-minute drive away, and you’re welcome to light up a barbecue back at your peaceful farm base. And those beaches? Well, they’re the fine specimens in and around Bude, around 10 minutes’ drive away. There’s surfing, golf, watersports and walking trails galore in and around town too, and the local area is equally well supplied with family-friendly days out. Being a fan of quiet countryside times, Farmer Phil hasn’t overly developed his site, installing just the essentials in his amenities area: toilet and shower facilities, plus a washing-up area.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Farmer Phil's welcome and flexibility are great. We arrived much later than expected and we gave him a ring and he met us at the gate and explained where to pitch our tent (in the dark). Facilities are clean and as described, recycling points and handy kitchen to use with microwave, kettle and washing machine/dryer. Pitches are spacious and plenty of distance between other campers. Beautiful site for dark skies as no light pollution. We are returning campers from previous years.

Disliked: Nothing.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The pitches where spacious and Electric pitches were available. Facilities were well kept and logs were easy to purchase. Well out of the way so no noise or light pollution. Also has goats onsite to ease you into the experience of being on a live farm.

Disliked: Only 2 showers were avaliable at one time and only 3 toilets.(Unisex showers and toilets) We were also asked to move our tent upon arrival after already being designated a space, we were told there would be lots of people coming during our stay so we needed to make room but over the duration of our stay there was only 4 other campers that wanted Electric hookup so really there was no need to move us after we had set up. Myself and my brother have been here before and loved the experince so this time decided to bring our youngest brother as well. We caused no noise or caused no upset during our stay but felt like we were being pushed as far away as possible from other campers due to the fact that we were a group of young men.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Lovely campsite, farmer's field with good facilities > fridge, freezer, microwave, kettle, toilets, showers. It is a farm so fair amount of animal noises to be expected.

Disliked: Cows were really loud! But is a farm, so no complaints!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Farmers Phil's Campsite is super relaxed, with beautiful country side views, even on a bank holiday weekend it did not very crowded in anyway, he clearly doesn't try and pack his site out and over fill in anyway, which is lovely. There is a fridge, toaster and microwave you can use to, and a washing machine, tumble dryer at a small cost, which was ideal. This is our new found fav camp site for exploring the Bude, widemouth area.

Local attractions

Let’s start with those beaches: the coastline around Bude is a bit of a stunner, with lots of great sandy swathes to visit. Many are dog-friendly, and several are fab for surfing – learn the technique at one of the surf schools around Summerleaze beach or catch the waves at Widemouth Bay or Northcott Mouth. That’s not it for aquatic activity though – Bude’s also a great spot for canoeing, windsurfing and coasteering, and Tamar Lakes is 20 minutes away for carp fishing and various watersports activities and lessons. Sticking to dry land, there’s a golf course in Bude and a riding centre around a 20-minute drive away for woodland trots and beachy canters. Nipper-friendly attractions within half an hour or so include the Milky Way Adventure Park and the Tamar Otter and Wildlife Centre.
