  • Peaceful Cornwall glamping site 10 minutes' walk from Kilkhampton
  • Sandymouth and Bude beaches within a 15-minute drive
  • Hot tub, woodburning stove and private bathroom for each unit
Happy news for those travelling light: bag a spot at East Thorne and there’s no need to haul heaps of gear along. At their peaceful place just outside Kilkhampton, Naomi and Adam have done their best to provide all the essentials for a tiptop Cornish break. Each of the roundhouses here has been set up with comfy beds, electric supply, wifi and a woodburning stove to keep things toasty – plus a rather lovely hot tub where you can bubble away in the open air. You’ll have a private bathroom in your unit too, along with a well-equipped kitchen to make it nice and easy to whip up a few snacks and drinks or a full meal. Fancy some alfresco cooking? There’s a heated barn with barbecue facilities for outdoor group dining, or you could try out the site’s woodfired clay oven. A farm shop is just up the road with various hampers available to order, and there’s a small supermarket about 20 minutes’ walk away in town. And if you don’t feel like cooking at all, it’s easy to stroll to the local pub in about 10 minutes. The Hive, an on-site converted horse box, is also open every day from April to October for those all-important frothy coffees and pastries. Also around the site are a playground, a games area, a few farm animals that the kids can help to feed from April to October and plenty of car-free space for the children (and/or the grownups) to run about, ride bikes and play games. With all this provided, you should have plenty of space in the car for fun stuff: buckets and spades are a good idea for Sandymouth beach, or perhaps a surfboard for catching waves in Bude – both are within 15 minutes’ drive of the site.

Local attractions

First stop, the beach. Or, more precisely, the beaches, for there are several very fine specimens around here. The long sandy stretch at Sandymouth (four miles away) is the nearest, but it’s also worth checking out the sea pool at Summerleaze, the rockpools at Crooklets and the excellent sunset spot of Widemouth Bay. This stretch of coast is also mighty popular with surfing types: Bude, six miles away, is the hub of action, with surf lessons on offer for those who need a hand with the ways of the waves. Paddleboarding, wakeboarding and an inflatable aqua park course are 20 minutes away at North Devon Wake Park. Sticking to dry land, there are loads of fab coastal walks nearby, and a rather viewsome golf course in Bude. For days out, the Milky Way Adventure Park is 20 minutes away by car, and the Eden Project is around an hour away.
