General

  • Family breaks or peaceful couples' getaways on the north Cornish coast
  • Half a mile from Crooklets beach and less than a mile from Summerleaze
  • Kids' club, pool and evening entertainment on site

There are many things one could big up about Bude Holiday Resort in Cornwall. First, the location: within a mile of two of the best beaches in the country and close to the National Trust clifftop walks of the Cornish coast. (There's even a private footpath from the park leading cliffwards. And dogs are allowed on site – yes, those last two statements are connected…)

Second, third, fourth and fifth, all the stuff to do around the grounds, which is pretty much all you need for a family hol: a heated outdoor pool open from May until September, a playground, amusement arcade and loads of leisure facilities including show, bingo and discos run nightly in the Atlantic Bar by the amicable entertainment team. (The accommodation price includes access to all park facilities including kids' club, pool and evening entertainment.)

Finally, does your ideal holiday include a kids' club? Surfing Sami and pals will keep your sprogs busy in the evening, with the kids' club running alongside the grownup entertainment in the Atlantic Bar. Is that the sound of parents around the land erupting into cheers…?

So much. Toilets disgusting. Not managed. We couldn’t even access the pool on our first day. The lifeguarding remotely which was managed by a sales officer was disgusting. We came to use the facilities which we weee unable to use so paid for a service which was not available.
You offered no support to cool stuff we couldn’t even purchase ice from your shop! We bathrooms us soiled underwear on the toilet floors and was consistently sporting flies. I could go on but will not. Even the coshh cupboard was left wide open for my 3year old to access!!!

was mis sold this holiday by pitch up was expecting a caravan with a deck and outdoor furniture, I received a confirmation email from pitch up with a pic and description of the van, rang to confirm before we arrived and was told that van was not available, no deck or furniture. had a £100 refund and £100 over the bar at the resort but would of rather had the van that I thought I had booked, we struggled all week keeping our two little dogs inside the van while 3 children we going in and out, not easy. would never had booked the van we were in.
also no wi fi in van.

Good hard standing pitch an convenient shower/toilet block.

The children loved the entertainment and swimming pool

    The site is well maintained

    Disliked:

The bar prices expensive for a club eg £11.35 for a single g & t and a pint.

Having to book a session for the pool was a pain. I booked the holiday not realising this was the case our grandaughters were very dissapointed that they couldn't swim when they wanted to.

Only saw the onsite cafe open twice during our stay.

The amusement arcade did not seem to be maintained very well, machines broken, not working. Only 2p coins available as change, some machines were 50p but no change available even over the bar.

From the manager...

Dear Jayne.Y

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review

We are glad to hear that your children enjoyed the swimming pool and the entertainment and your pitch was satisfactory also.

The booking system for the pool is in place to ensure the safety or all of our guests and so have this system in place to try to make it as fair as possible for all our guests to enjoy the pool.
Our amusement arcade is outsourced so we will pass your feedback on to the relevant people regarding this.

We hope that you would come and visit us again as we will be having some refurbishments done over the winter months and would be great to see you again so that we could show you!

Sloped pitches (we must have been on a 20/25 degree slope at the top of the field). You have to book hour long sessions in the pool which wasn’t made clear anywhere so you can’t just pop in on a whim. However, the pool was very, very cold so this wasn’t much of an issue in the end! Toilets needed cleaning more frequently. Showers were crazy hot with no ability to adjust. Bar and cafe were very sticky...

    Disliked:

The system for booking slots in the pool.
The clubhouse floor was so sticky every night I had to peel my flip flops off it, it can’t have been mopped the whole time we stayed!
Toilets need to be cleaned more frequently during peak periods, several times they were out of toilet roll.

  • Liked:

Pitch sizes and layout. Not too crammed in. Toilet/shower block and wash up facilities were all good and fairly new and never any queues to use.

    Club house.

Pool was reasonable temperature and good layout for the children.

Location was perfect to be able to walk to the local beaches or town.

    Disliked:

Too many executive/mobile homes taking over and so reducing the touring pitches.

Pitches were a bit uneven for putting up awning due to the different levels of stone/grass pitches

Lack of an on site shop and also the cafe on site was hit and miss as to whether food was being served. No other food facility available on the site.

Location - beaches and coastal path, walk to Bude town.
Showers hot, toilet block clean, small pool on site, quiet.

    Disliked:

It is clear they are no longer interested in campers or tourers as changing the site to static caravans only. Due to this, there was work constantly going on on the site. Reception didn’t really want to know. Lack of a shop. Poor range of food being offered in the cafe on site i.e. 3 choices! Despite being the summer holidays, the whole site felt like a ghost town with no atmosphere. The bar was dead, incredibly hot and smelly as a result. No security at all.

Local attractions

Miles upon miles of cracking beaches for sandcastle building and surfing are all around Bude: Crooklets and Summerleaze are closest within a mile of the park, but others like Widemouth Bay, Northcott Mouth, Sandymouth Bay and Duckpool are all musts as well. Surfboard and wetsuit hire is in Bude, along with four surf schools.

All is seriously scenic on land too: appreciate it at its best with coast and countryside walks along the South West Coast Path or the miles of public footpaths for dog and human walks, or by a ramble around Bude Marshes or one of the several nature reserves of north Cornwall.

Also easy to find around Bude are three golf clubs, five riding schools (a trot on the beach?), two leisure centres and activity centres for clay pigeon shooting, climbing, kayaking and archery. Or travel a little further afield for Cornwall's most topping attractions like the Eden Project near St Austell, the Blue Reef Aquarium in Newquay and the Crealy Great Amusement Park at Wadebridge.

Over the border in north Devon, have a day trip to the rather fab RHS Rosemoor Gardens in Great Torrington, and another two trips taking the kids to the Milky Way theme park and award-winning The Big Sheep, both at Bideford.

Must see

  • Tintagel Castle (15.2 miles)
  • RHS Garden Rosemoor (19.2 miles)
  • Rock Beach (26.2 miles)
