Atlantic Camping: Overview of the site

General

  • Family-run farm site
  • A mile from the beaches and town centre of Bude
  • Animals to feed and a shell craft studio on site

If you're staying close to Cornish beaches, you might want to do something with your seashells. Such is the state of affairs at Atlantic Camping near Bude, a site so family-friendly it's set up its own shell craft studio for small (and big) sorts to craft their foraged shells into ornaments or use them to decorate bits and pieces like pots, mirrors and picture frames.

Atlantic Camping is a family-run farm site set within 26 acres of farmland, a mile from the surfing beaches of north Cornwall's Bude. The farm entrance is set directly on the Atlantic Highway (the A39, the main road past Bude) so is easily accessible to all vehicle types, but the site part is set well back from the road on the other side of the farm: no traffic noise here.

The planted-out pitches are set among two and a half acres of well-mown grass, with a climbing frame and ball game area for the kids. Atlantic Camping is home to chickens, turkeys, geese, sheep and alpacas; families are welcome to walk around the farm, or to take one of the walks straight out of the farm to local farm tracks and onwards.

Amenities include a washing-up area with four sinks, and a toilet and shower block with six showers and seven toilets, including a disabled toilet and one with baby-changing facilities.

The pubs, restaurants and attractions of Bude town centre are a 20-minute walk from the farm: bring a torch if you're coming or going at night.

Please note

Single-sex bookings of 6 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

The grocery shop is open between 01/06 and 01/09.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Reception is unmanned after 6 p.m.. Please inform the site while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.

Some amenities may be restricted according to demand at the beginning and end of the season; this includes the on-site shop.

The site has facilities for biodegradable toilet chemicals, but unfortunately not for blue chemicals.

Located a 20 minute walk across the busy A39, past the covid test centre 🙄 through an industrial estate into Bude Town centre. This meant we could walk everywhere and was the best part about the campsite.

    Disliked:

Only saw one member of staff during our stay and this was shortly after arrival. Found the person to be quite rude abrupt and unwelcoming.

Toilet and shower facilities extremely basic. I was shocked when I saw them. Very few of them (thankfully we were the only people on site for most of the week) can only imagine it's carnage during busy times. Hand soap lacking in half of the toilets and this was the case all week which made me think that the facilities were neither checked nor cleaned during our stay. Not great in covid times!

Just a general lack of basics that you would expect on a campsite- many pitches didn't have numbers on them, had to find water points as these weren't clearly signed. Had to find where to dispose of rubbish as again, no signage. Arrived early and told to park but no indication of where to park....I could go on.

Some of the toilets had no hot tap, some had no plug for the sink, some of the showers didn't have anywhere to hang clothes etc whilst showering....signs up saying leave the showers clean and tidy yet nothing provided to clean them with.

Had 2 prolonged powercuts while we were there, quite an inconvenience when we have all our own on board facilities and we're literally paying for the electric hook up.

Annoyed that had to pay an extra £20 to take our dog when there would normally be no dog exercise space - in fact there was a sign asking to keep dog off the grass! Luckily had the site to ourselves so were able to walk her around the field.

Despite all of the above had a decent week- thankfully we were in a camper so relied very little on the site facilities, next time might just find a lay by!

Good sized and well maintained grass pitch for campervan but not completely level. Toilet and showers kept clean and plenty of hot water.
Good location on outskirts of Bude with marked path and route to walk into town and access to coastal path. Shame it took you through the business park but not a major issue.
As out of season there were only two other campervans on site at time of staying so unable to comment if facilities would be adequate if site were full.
Helpful staff for information on buses etc.

Loved the view from the campsite and the easy accessibility from Bude and local transport- no more than a 20 minute walk. The showers and toilets were easily accessed from our pitches and cleaned regularly. The camp owners were really welcoming and helpful and made the weekend all the better. The tent pitches were well maintained. Pitches were spacious and level, with plenty of room to park a car. Family friendly site, very quiet and peaceful.

The location and the slightly green feel. Toilets and showers seemed basic at first but actually worked well and were kept clean. The cockerel morning alarm was novel. The planting between pitches was good for privacy and although the site's on a slight slope it was nothing the levelling chocks couldn't handle. We'd be happy to go back.

Everything, the showers were excellent, clean, bright, had everything you needed. The dog area was enclosed and even had poo bags if you forgot or ran out. Loved the pooch pampering area (dog didn’t agree though lol 😂 doesn’t like being bathed yet as he is only nearly 2yrs old). The staff so friendly and welcoming, definitely come here again. Thank you so much x

Local attractions

The beaut beaches of Bude are rightly famed for their golden sands, clean water and surfing breaks: get along to Summerleaze and Crooklets within Bude for surf, and to the National Trust-managed Sandymouth for a quieter vibe via its steep ravine.

The long sands and popular surfing waves of Widemouth Bay are a few miles from Bude, Crackington Haven is within eight miles, and the family-friendly beach of Northcott Mouth is a top spot nearby for rockpooling.

In Bude town, spend a morning wandering around the harbour and Bude's buildings – including the oldest in town, Quay Cottage, and the heritage centre now housed in Bude Castle. Then, perhaps, a pint, lunch or pasty before tackling the local stretch of the also-famed South West Coast Path, from Bude Canal to Crackington Haven, and then further south to Boscastle and Tintagel…?

Horse riding, cycling, ten-pin bowling, fishing, tennis and golf are all available in the region too: ask the Atlantic Camping team for its top tips.
