  • Family-run Cornish site with fishing and sea views
  • Two miles from Boscastle; Camelford five minutes' drive
  • Day tickets available for well-stocked carp lakes
Help yourself to a generous serving of fresh Cornish air at Venn Down Lakes, a 50-acre working farm roughly three miles from the north coast of Cornwall. This tents-only site gets extra marks for its sea views, with vistas that sweep all the way over the water to far-off Lundy Island on clear days. The site has two coarse fishing lakes that are kept well-stocked throughout the camping season, so bring your rod, tackle and some bait along if you fancy buying a day ticket for a few hours of blissful peace and quiet. You can hire a firepit on a nightly or weekly basis too, making it all the easier to enjoy the stars at night in this designated dark sky zone. Kindling and logs are sold on site and can be delivered to your pitch upon request. Please help look after the farm and its grass by not lighting any fires on the ground. This is a simple site, but Venn Down Lakes does have basic services like well-maintained showers, portable toilets and picnic benches for eating in the open air. For local amenities like pubs, cafés and shops, your best bet is to head to Boscastle or Camelford (both five minutes' drive).

Local attractions

The pretty village of Boscastle (five minutes' drive) should be on the itinerary of anyone coming to stay at Venn Down Lakes. Much of the land around the village is owned by the National Trust, who maintain a range of footpaths in the local area and much of Boscastle's historic harbour area. More heritage is on display at Tintagel (10 minutes), where the well-preserved medieval castle, beaches, caves and curiosities such as St Nectan's Glen will keep visitors entertained for many an hour. For more seaside spots, pack a picnic and head to Trebarwith beach, a long stretch of sand backed by impressive rock formations, or lace up your hiking boots for a jaunt around Pentire Point (25 minutes), a rugged headland that juts out into the North Atlantic. If you're accompanied by kids whose little legs aren't yet up to such excursions, take them to see the animals at Newquay Zoo (45 minutes) or, if they're on their very best behaviour, treat them to a trip to Hidden Valley (20 minutes), an adventure park with puzzle trails, a forbidden mansion, a mind-boggling maze and a narrow-gauge railway.

Top Field non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Plenty of space, warm showers & close to Tintagel, Boscastle and Bossiney Bay.

Disliked: Fishing lakes weeded up and unfishable at the moment. Although it must be difficult to keep them clear given the weather we have been having recently.

Liked: I loved Venn Down Lakes and we had a great time there. The location was perfect to visit very interesting places around. It was also very peaceful and with superb views and sunsets. The family running the business were super friendly and they made sure that we had everything that we need during our stay. I am planning to come back.

Top Field non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Nice site, in large field, and you can pick you own pitch which was a good idea, views towards sea are wonderful.Easy access off main road,Very close to Boscastle. There are showers and portable loo, and fresh water in the field. Dog friendly, and 2 carp lakes if you like fishing. I only live in Falmouth Cornwall, so only 1.5 hrs away. Will defiantly go back and explore north Cornwall again.

Disliked: Nothing,as I have on board all amenities.

Top Field non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Countryside and view is stunning, amazing sunsets over the sea.

Disliked: Showers OK but had to go with someone to hand in a towel and clothes as no where to put them where they wouldn't get wet whilst showering. 1 portaloo that didn't have toilet paper when we arrived but was filled the next morning. Luke warm washing up water. Didn't see an owner/host warden the whole of our stay

Top Field non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Very clean very spacious. Kind welcome fire pit and wood great price. Well maintained grounds. Warm shower always a bonus. The great pink welcome made us all smile every time we drove past. For sure you can't miss the place

Disliked: Only one toilet if it was busy would be an issue. There may have been more round of it was. With it being on top of the valley and near the sea the mist was an issue couldn't keep anything dry. Maybe an addition of a hanging shed wouldn't be a bad idea. Very first works issue I know 🤣

Top Field non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: No other campers and firepits.

Disliked: Long wet walk to the portable loo, washing up and shower "block". As this campsite is on a hill in a valley it was a very wet experience.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately we cannot control the cornish weather, it is a shame that your few days were wet ones ! Our campers are able to choose where they pitch, so it is unfortunate that you chose to pitch far away from the facilities. I am sorry that you did not love our basic pop up campsite. Safe travels :)
