  • Simple and affordable Cornwall site 10 minutes' drive from Bodmin
  • Camel Trail 10 minutes’ drive; 20 minutes to the Eden Project
  • Half-price entry to the slip-and-slide attraction on site
Get set for a bargain family break that also comes with the added bonus of a whole lot of giggles. As the name suggests, Kernow Slide Camping is part of a Cornwall attraction that’s home to a giant slip-and-slide – a place that’s bound to be a hit with active types of all ages. There’s heaps of fun to be had here, with the hour-long sliding sessions allowing you to zoom down the four lanes of the 145-metre waterslide as many times as you like. Sessions need to be booked in advance, but campsite guests get half-price entry during their stay (subject to availability and normal slide rules). The slide attraction is open from 11am to 5pm, and it’s certainly worth giving it a whirl while you’re here. But this being Cornwall there are of course loads of other things to fill the rest of your time with – you’ll be well placed for the beaches of both the north and south coasts, big attractions like Tintagel Castle and the Eden Project or low-key wanders around Bodmin Moor and Cardinham Woods. The campsite is a friendly place that welcomes all guests and aims to provide a ‘cheap and cheerful’ experience so families and groups can have an affordable break. With that in mind, the facilities are limited to just portable toilets; please note no electric connections, showers, running water or other amenities. Barbecues are permitted though (pick up supplies in Bodmin, 10 minutes’ drive away), and hot food, hot drinks and ice creams are available daily from 8am to 8pm.

Local attractions

If your family loves being out in the open air, perhaps you’d like a nice ramble along one of the trails at Cardinham Woods (10 minutes’ drive) or on Bodmin Moor – places like Golitha Falls National Nature Reserve (20 minutes) are often popular. There’s also the option of cycling along the traffic-free Camel Trail from Bodmin (10 minutes). And how about some beach time? Polkerris (half an hour) is lovely for swimming, paddleboarding and rockpooling, while Polzeath (40 minutes) has bigger waves that make for some great surfing; lessons are available if you need them. There are lots more beaches around too, plus coast walks and villages/towns like Polperro, Padstow and Port Isaac are all within a 45-minute drive. Other attractions nearby include the Bodmin Jail Attraction (15 minutes), Eden Project (20 minutes) and Camel Creek Family Adventure Park (35 minutes). You could also dip into history with trips to Lanhydrock (10 minutes) and Tintagel Castle (45 minutes).
