If you’ve ever watched the Poldark TV series or read some of the books, the name Demelza might already be familiar to you… indeed, the character was named after the quiet hamlet of Demelza, which also gives its name to Demelza Cottage. Come along for a stay here and you’ll be cosying up in a shepherd’s hut in the cottage grounds, with far-reaching views over the surrounding Cornwall countryside. It’s an adults-only setup here, so it’s a great little spot for a couple’s holiday – especially if you’re here between May and September, when the Lay-Z-Spa hot tub is available for you to spend evenings bubbling away in the open air. The hut is compact but well laid out, with a double bed (with bed linen provided), a dining table and chairs and a small kitchenette (with cooker, microwave, kettle, toaster and utensils) as well as an ensuite bathroom. Outside, a picnic table and firepit mean you should be able to make the most of the fresh air even when not soaking in the hot tub. This is a handy location indeed for a Cornwall break – it’s pretty much halfway between the north and south coasts and about five minutes’ drive from the A30, making it easy to get out to further-flung spots like Land’s End and St Michael’s Mount as well as more local attractions including the Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan.
