  • Isle of Wight park with spectacular views and top-notch facilities
  • Relax in the garden conservatory or run amok with the kids
  • Shower and bathroom facilities with underfloor heating
'The best campsite we've ever stayed at' is just one of the excellent accolades piled upon the Isle of Wight's The Orchards Holiday Park, where guests feel in firm agreement with The Orchards' assessment of its facilities as 'top-notch'. Said facilities include toilets, showers, a family-sized bathroom and a washing-up area and launderette, all with underfloor heating. During busier times, the site also opens up a ladies' vanity area, a family shower room, a baby-changing room and wheelchair-accessible amenities. Things are top-notch leisurewise too, with a heated outdoor pool open from late May to late August, an indoor pool open all season, a poolside coffee shop, pool and ping pong tables and a recreation area. There are two play areas – one for under-fives and one for older kids – as well as a dog exercise area. And the views, the location and the atmosphere here all regularly get top billing here as well: The Orchards is a relaxed and friendly park with an amicable and helpful team, set near Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight's western rural side and coming with first-rate views (this is among the most scenic washing up you'll ever do). Finally, if you want to take the hassle out of ferry bookings on your journey to and from the island, the Orchards team can help arrange your travel: just let them know after you book.

Local attractions

The Orchards Holiday Park is in west Wight, the more quiet and rural part of the island, but you won't have far to drive to get to all the other islandy attractions ('tis not a big place, the Isle of Wight). And even better news: The Orchards has discount deals arranged for guests with many of the local pubs and attractions. Staying west, miles of pathways can be investigated from the park by foot or pedal (maps as well as details on the team's favourite walks can be found at the park reception), as well as hikes along the coastline with wight pretty scenery and views of the Solent. The sandy beaches of Brook and Compton are a short drive away, as is Newtown Creek, a National Trust nature reserve brimming with birds, butterflies and boat photo opportunities. Also have a look at Chessell Pottery Barns, the Yarmouth outlet with gallery, activities, gift barn and café; or, for history, Calbourne Water Mill and Rural Museum, and the holiday home of Queen Victoria, Osborne House in East Cowes.

Liked A lovely family friendly site in a beautiful location. Great facilities we loved accessing both pools daily and my girls were able to roam safely to the play areas. We enjoyed the takeaway facility and cafe. And the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Disliked Be aware that the site is on a hillside so most pitches have some degree of slop to them. It's not an issue as long as you are prepared for it.

I would have like to see more fresh food products available in the shop. But there was a good selection of store cupboard products.

Liked Two swimming pools and lovely massive changing block and toilets. Very clean and well set out

Disliked Pitches are quite small and only just about fit tent and car. Maybe offer a double pitch or larger area for families.

Liked Lovely site, not too busy when we visited, clean and tidy area.
Bus stop right outside the site was a bonus!

Disliked The showers only ran for literally 20 seconds so pushing the button was constant. Would have been uncomfortable if we went at a cooler time of year ie spring, autumn or winter.

Liked We went off peak, so the campsite felt very spacious.
Warm welcome from reception, very accommodating for a pitch swap.
There's a takeaway on site so was appreciated on the last night we didnt have to cook.
I came to this campsite almost 20 years ago as a young girl (not much had changed, which actually was quite nice) lots of memories.

Disliked Shame the outdoor pool was out of use, but work is clearly underway to make it better.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Bus stop opposite

Disliked The fact that they didn’t have us booked in,(was booked last November) the campsite was fully booked with a children’s rugby tour. They put the blame onto pitchup. Said they offered us a refund but they didn’t. Was told that all the facilities where available to us, but they weren’t.

From the manager: On arrival at our park at 2pm on 2nd May the lady in reception wasn't expecting you, we have admitted this, it was a human error and not something that we make a habit of. You showed her your confirmation and she then called the general manager (myself) and explained the situation. Our touring park was busy with the rugby tour but not fully booked. You were told that you were welcome to stay but we had lots of children on site. I did instruct the receptionist to offer you a refund if you would rather not stay but you said you were grateful that we had a pitch to offer you and you decided to stay.
You looked at one area on the touring site and then went back to reception and asked for a different pitch which you were allocated. The area chosen by yourselves was in the quietest part of the park. I was pitched only 4 places away from you as I had decided to stay on site with my camper van to keep an eye on things.
The shop was open for your use as were the games rooms and the toilet block.
I have noted from another review that you were turned away from our take away and for that I can only apologise but I think they were overwhelmed with the sheer number of people on site.
I am sorry that your experience with us wasn't a good one but I have to say I am at a loss to understand why you stayed for two nights if everything was so awful!!

Liked Friendly staff in reception and shop. Lovely site, tiered pitches with countryside views. Good facilities - wet rooms for ladies, gents and unisex, so handy for families. Washers, dryers, ironing boards, plenty of sinks to wash up in. The indoor pool was warm, clean and the pool toys for all to use were much appreciated. The coffee shop was well priced too. It was end of the season so we felt we had it all to ourselves!
