  • Caravan and Motorhome Club site in the Isle of Wight's Arreton Valley
  • Sandown, Shanklin, Garlic Farm and Amazon World within 10 mins' drive
  • Member price shown; non-members select £15/night extra or join for £69
Take some time to slow down… laidback island life beckons when you stay at Southland Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite, on the edge of the village of Newchurch in the Isle of Wight’s scenic Arreton Valley. Specifically designed for touring vehicles, this site is managed by the Caravan and Motorhome Club but it’s open to both members and non-members, with reduced rates for members. The price listed here is for members; non-members will need to pay the £15 per night extra or choose the £69 membership – certainly worth considering if you do more than four nights’ camping per year, as it entitles you to a year of discounted rates at over 140 top-rated UK sites and brings a raft of other perks like access to tailored caravan/motorhome insurance. Life here is nice and easy for guests, with spacious pitches (roomy enough for your awning or gazebo, a barbecue and some chairs) in a level and well-drained meadow where mature trees and shrubs create a nice sense of privacy and seclusion. A large playground, several additional play areas and a dog walk area mean kids and dogs are catered for, and there are plenty of handy facilities including a launderette, a wifi service and well-appointed bathrooms with facilities designed for families and guests with reduced mobility. Even the check-in process is as easy as can be, with an ANPR-based system in place. The atmosphere here is one of rural peace, but it’s handy to know you can also walk to the village in about 10 minutes for a meal at the pub. Meanwhile, Sandown and Shanklin are both 10 minutes’ drive away for lively beach days.

Local attractions

Beach days are always popular on the Isle of Wight – and here you’ll have several options, with both Shanklin and Sandown 10 minutes’ drive away and Ventnor not much further at 15 minutes’ drive. All have golden sands, safe swimming water and plenty of attractions including watersports and crazy golf. Also close by are the animals of Amazon World Zoo Park (five minutes’ drive/20 minutes’ walk) and the Isle Of Wight Donkey Sanctuary (10 minutes’ drive) and foodie favourite The Garlic Farm Shop And Restaurant (five minutes). Robin Hill Adventure Park (10 minutes) is another place that’s popular with active families. And how about a bit of history? Brading Roman Villa and Nunwell House are 15 minutes’ drive away, or you could set off to see medieval Carisbrooke Castle (15 minutes) and Queen Victoria’s favourite haunt at Osborne (25 minutes). A nostalgic ride on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway (15 minutes) would also fit the bill.
