  • Peaceful rural Isle of Wight site between Sandown and Brading
  • Sandown beach and Wildheart Animal Sanctuary within a 10-minute drive
  • Outdoor pool, fishing lake and well-stocked shop/café on site
Being tucked away in the countryside between Brading and Sandown is a great choice for your Isle of Wight break – you’ll have a lovely peaceful setting in which to relax, but you’ll also be conveniently located for shops, places to eat, beaches and all the attractions of the eastern part of the island. Sitting in that very spot is Adgestone Campsite and Touring Park, a well-equipped site that welcomes families, couples, solo travellers and groups (plus holidaying dogs) for stays in peaceful rural surroundings. It’s a spacious place, but it’s been nicely divided up into smaller areas lined with trees and hedges so you’ll feel like you’re staying at a sheltered and cosy nook rather than a sprawling field. From this nifty location it’s easy to get out to the beaches of Sandown and Shanklin, to the family fun of Dinosaur Isle Museum and Blackgang Chine, to historic attractions like Carisbrooke Castle and Osborne, to coast walks around The Needles… in short, pretty much whatever you fancy doing. There’s much more to this place than just somewhere to lay your head between outings though – an outdoor pool, a play area, a football pitch and a fishing lake mean that there’s plenty to do while you’re here. The shop, café and ice cream station should keep everyone fed, watered and cooled off too, but you’re welcome to bring a barbecue if you wish. Other handy amenities on site include a chemical disposal point, a fast wifi connection and a bathroom block with toilets and showers.

Local attractions

Where to start? There are plenty of options, but perhaps Sandown (10 minutes’ drive) is a good first port of call, with its traditional pier, miles of golden sandy beach and attractions including Wildheart Animal Sanctuary and Dinosaur Isle Museum. Also very close to the site are riverside walks in Sandown Meadows nature reserve (20 minutes’ walk) and visits to Brading Roman Villa (half an hour’s walk/10 minutes’ drive. Elsewhere along the coast, you can walk through a tree-lined gorge to the waterfalls at Shanklin Chine (15 minutes’ drive), go for breezy coastal walks at Culver Down (15 minutes) or cross to the other side of the island for The Needles (45 minutes). There are plenty of beaches and seaside activities (watersports and sea fishing included) all along the island’s coastline too. To dip into the island’s heritage, visit Carisbrooke Castle and Osborne (both 25 minutes) or bag a vintage ride on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway (20 minutes). For family days out, check out the likes of Monkey Haven (20 minutes) and Blackgang Chine (half an hour), the UK’s oldest theme park.
