There’s heaps of history around the New Forest – it was, after all, established as a royal hunting ground by William the Conqueror way back in 1079. It’s also home to more than 600 Ancient Scheduled Monuments, making it a fascinating place for heritage hunters to explore. History is part of the package when you stay at New Forest Centenary Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite, too. This well-maintained Hampshire touring park is set within the grounds of a former World War II airfield, with part of the original runway still visible and a dedicated memorial to the New Forest airfields just to the north. This site is managed by the Caravan and Motorhome Club, and it’s open to members and non-members alike, with special rates for members. The price displayed is for members only, so non-members will need to pay the £15/night extra or buy a £69 membership – worth considering if you're likely to spend more than four nights at a Club site over the year, as it brings discounts at more than 140 UK sites, plus other perks like access to tailored caravan/motorhome insurance, discounts on days out and savings on top brands. High-quality facilities here include a launderette and a chemical disposal point, along with a bathroom block that’s got accessible facilities and family areas. ANPR check-in makes the arrival process smooth, and you can hire bikes on site to get around. This spacious site is home to a play area, a dog exercise area and the Centenary Gardens, which attract a lot of local birdlife. Barbecues are permitted (pick up your supplies in Bransgore, five minutes’ drive away) and a fish and chip van stops by regularly for tasty takeaways.

Route directions

From the north: turn right off the A35 (Lyndhurst - Christchurch) in 7.5 miles into the road signposted Godwinscroft, Holmsley. After half a mile, turn right into Forest Road. The site is on the left after 0.25 miles. From the west on the A31: Leave at Cadnam onto the A337 (Lyndhurst) and follow signposts to Lymington, keeping right on the A35, then Christchurch; then as above. Please do not approach from any other direction or tow through Bransgore village as roads are unsuitable for towing. Alternative route: to avoid congestion in Lyndhurst, exit the M27 at junction 2 and follow the lorry route to site.

Local attractions

This site is well placed for walks and bike rides in scenic surroundings, with trails starting a mere 200 yards away. Wilverley inclosure (10 minutes’ drive) and Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary (15 minutes) are also popular places to walk/cycle nearby, or you could head to the coast for a seaside stroll/pedal around Highcliffe (10 minutes) and beyond. While you’re down at the coast you may also like to wander the nature trails of Hengistbury Head (15 minutes), take a walk out to Hurst Castle (20 minutes) or hit the sandy beach in Bournemouth (25 minutes). Back in the New Forest, there are lots of great attractions, including the animals of Liberty's Owl, Raptor & Reptile Centre (15 minutes) and New Forest Wildlife Park (20 minutes), the floating obstacle course at New Forest Water Park (20 minutes) and the shiny vehicles of Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum (five minutes) and the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu (25 minutes).

Booking terms and conditions

Admission

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.

Changes to your holiday

Changes cannot be made once you have booked.

Dogs

Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. XL Bully, Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

General

Bookings are nominative and non-transferable.
Bookings must not be for more than 28 consecutive nights.
Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.
In the event of a complaint, please speak to reception immediately. Complaints which are not brought to the management's attention during your stay cannot be dealt with once you have left the site.
Quiet hours must be respected between 10 p.m. and 9 a.m..
The management reserves the right to deny access or terminate the stay of those guests whose behaviour is deemed unsuitable. No refunds will be offered.
The site is not liable for any refund in the event of force majeure.

Pitches

A cable measuring at least 25 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.
Minimum spacing of 6 metres between pitches.
Please note, pup tents are to be used for storage purposes only. Guests may not use them for sleeping.

Reception

Reception is open from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. between 13/03 and 31/10.
