Walks around the site

  • Dog-friendly over-21s site on a peaceful East Sussex farm
  • A 20-minute drive from Scotney Castle, Bewl Water and Go Ape
  • Campfires and barbecues permitted; Eridge pubs 30 mins' walk away
Weekenders take note: this splendid farm site is a top spot for short breaks in the green East Sussex countryside. Nary a noisy tot or teen to be seen here: this site is reserved for the over-21s (although if your dog is under 21 in human or pup years, fear not – the rule doesn't apply to canine guests). The owners describe this place as being like 'a good village pub' – a civilised and sociable spot where you can chat with new neighbours or find yourself a quiet corner for some peace and quiet. And, while this site isn't actually a pub, the fine hostelries of Eridge are a half-hour walk (or short drive) away… This rural spot is also home to a herd of cows, whose occasional mooing is pretty sure to help get you in the holiday mood (as are the wildflowers, hedgerows and gorgeous trees). Another perk is that Campfire Weekends is adjacent to Eridge Park, an extensive deer park crisscrossed by footpaths, and there are plenty of places to go for walks and bike rides. Facilities here are kept simple and functional – it's a pick-your-own-pitch set up with the safari-style washing facilities and compost loos housed in a nifty trailer. Cold drinkable water is also available from a standpipe. Feel free to set up a campfire (obviously) or barbecue (rent one on site, or bring your own – off ground and no disposables, ta) during your stay here; the owners recommend Renhurst Farm Shop (five minutes' drive) if you're looking to stock up on local produce. No amplified music is allowed (from mobile phones or car or portable stereos) and there's a quiet policy after 10.30pm to make sure everyone can enjoy peaceful slumbers.

What customers say

Guests praise the campsite's quiet, relaxed atmosphere and spacious pitches, noting the adult-only policy contributes to a peaceful stay. The location is highlighted as excellent for countryside walks and accessing local pubs. While the facilities are basic, reviewers found the compost toilets to be very clean. Some guests experienced noise disturbances, which the manager stated is unusual for the area and may have been due to a nearby event.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Very quiet and relaxed due to the owners not cramming the site full (max 30 people) and being adult only. Lots of space and privacy. Basic, compost toilets regularly emptied and cleaned, really spotless. Watering can shower if required. Great location in the Kent/Sussex countryside; long walks possible from the site and excellent pubs in the area. Really nice family who run it. Thanks all.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The simplicity and the area.

Disliked The noise from the local pub and the barrage of hornet attacks throughout the evening.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are really disappointed that you did not enjoy your time with us as much as others have done. We are surprised by the noise from the local pub as we do not have one within earshot and so wonder if there was a private party being hosted nearby. Again we are sorry you were disturbed by this as we pride ourselves on the peace and quiet in this area.

We do hope you will come and visit again and hope that the next time you find it just as we want you to find it - very peaceful - all best Campfire Weekends Team

Easy to pitch up here and not far to drive into Tunbridge for a drink.
