  • Small Lancashire farm site between the Lakes and Dales
  • Two miles from Kirkby Lonsdale and 25 minutes from Kendal
  • Family-run site welcoming couples, families and dogs
Give yourself a new lease of life with a stay at Lunesdale Escapes and New House Caravan Park, a gorgeous site just outside Kirkby Lonsdale and halfway between the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District national parks. This family-run business is based in the small settlement of Cowan Bridge, mere minutes from the larger market town of Kirkby Lonsdale and its thriving high street, where you can explore a variety of independent shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants, or browse the popular weekly market. It's sometimes tricky to find dog-friendly accommodation, but you'll face no such problems at Lunesdale Escapes and New House Caravan Park, as this pet-friendly park allows four-legged friends (please make sure all dogs are kept on leads while out and about around the site though). Shared facilities on site include bathrooms, a washing-up area and a launderette (for those inevitable bits of mud you'll pick up while out exploring the nearby national parks).

What customers say

This is a consistently praised, quiet and very clean site with spacious pitches and excellent toilet and shower facilities. It is well-located for exploring the surrounding countryside and local villages, including Kirkby Lonsdale, though some guests noted a lack of safe footpaths for walking to the town. While generally well-maintained, some pitches are sloping, and occasional issues with frozen water taps during cold weather have been reported, with management confirming they are looking at improvements. WiFi is available.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Easy access from the motorway we chose the site for a stop over for the night on a Scotland trip. Good size pitches with hook up for electricity and all the facilities we needed. Although out of season and quiet check in was easy. Reasonably priced too. Site is basic but does the job well. Toilets facilities showers were clean warm tidy and showers were good.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Small site, clean toilets and showers and laundry /washroom. Close to Kirkby Lonsdale. We had a level pitch close to facilities.
We didn’t know how to check in as the office wasn’t open but luckily there was a list of names and pitch numbers up in the window of the office and a map of where the pitches were (we arrived when it was dark). Pitches have your surname on.

Disliked We believe there is a ‘safe’ walk into Kirkby Lonsdale but there was no information about this. We didn’t walk as we had our little dog and the walk we found on google maps took us along the busy and fast main road which doesn’t have a footpath for part of the walk. A bonus would be to have a mini map or set of directions on how to get to Kirkby Lonsdale using quiet paths or roads - most walkers don’t mind if it’s a mile or so further.

Liked A lovely clean & quiet site. Good clean facilities. Unfortunately as it was very cold there was no water facilities as the taps had frozen but thankfully we had brought our own.

Local attractions

Start off by exploring the lovely Lunesdale area. Park up in Kirkby Lonsdale (five minutes' drive) for strolls around the town centre, crossing the graceful medieval arches of the Devil's Bridge and wandering or cycling along the riverbank. It's a short distance from here to Ruskin's View, described by the famous art critic in 1875 as 'one of the loveliest views in England', where you can take in suitably splendid panoramas over the Lune Valley. Next, a 10-minute drive to the south, you could visit the pretty village of Ingleton, where mountains, caves and waterfalls await. Alternatively, head further into Yorkshire for Dales day trips to Skipton (45 minutes) and its well-preserved castle, Settle (20 minutes) with its cliffs and caves or Hawes (35 minutes), home to cheese tastings at Wensleydale Creamery. To the north, you also have the Lake District National Park within reach. The handsome town of Kendal (25 minutes) has lots of historic sights to see, including a castle, museum and pleasant river walk, while the gorgeous shores of Windermere are just over half an hour away by road for boat trips, watersports and waterside wanders.
