  • Small family-run site with Ribble Valley views in Lancashire
  • A 20-minute drive to Gisburn Forest bike paths, Pendle Hill and Settle
  • Dog-friendly site with dedicated exercise area; pub 15 minutes’ walk
Keen to have a look at Lancashire and a sneaky peek into Yorkshire? Lurk for a while at Calder Farm for a peaceful break with views to Pendle Hill in the spectacular Ribble Valley. This is a scenic pitstop for exploring the Forest of Bowland National Landscape (10 minutes’ drive) or hopping counties into the Yorkshire Dales National Park (20 minutes). Sparkling clean facilities on this family-run site include a heated toilet block with disabled access to the showers and washing-up area. Barbecues are permitted (but not open campfires please), and you’ll need to bring your own firepit, although you can buy wood on site and picnic tables are provided on the tree-sheltered field. Stock up on barbecue supplies in the supermarkets of Clitheroe (15 minutes’ drive), and if you’re just not that into cooking on your Lancashire camping break, there’s a gastro-pub and microbrewery in the pretty village of Bolton by Bowland (15 minutes’ walk). Your family dogs are welcome to join you on the many footpaths direct from the site, and there’s also a dedicated dog-exercise area in a fenced field – the owners do ask, however, that dogs remain on a lead while around the site. And talking of animals, you’ll soon be firm friends with the horses and ponies grazing neighbouring fields.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Great location for a peaceful stay. Reasonably priced and good facilities. There is also a very nice pub (the Coach & Horses) within walking distance.

Disliked I would have preferred there to be slightly more within walking distance or public transport.

Electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch (small)

Liked A wonderful campsite- just the right number of pitches so as not to feel overcrowded. Really spacious pitches. The owners were very welcoming and even came on an ice cream round- much appreciated. Great views and located deep into the countryside. Local village shop and pub a 10 minute walk across the field. A great vibe all round.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Toilets and showers were clean, site was easy to find. They had sheep on the farm which were adorable. Overall the area was picturesque and peaceful.

Disliked Only thing that could be improved as that the grass was very long, which made for a wonky ground under the tent.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Very nice location. Good facilities and friendly owners. Very nice pub within 15 mins walk.

Disliked Long grass in the tent field which isn't ideal when pitching your tent. All other areas were nicely kept so a shame people in tents weren't treated the same.

From the manager: Hello. Apologies for the grass being long but our tractor and mower had broken down so we were unable to cut the field for a few weeks. Unfortunatley the small lawnmower we use on other areas of the site isn't substantial enough for the tent field. The field is usually maintained to the same standard as the rest of the site

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Nice bathroom and shower but not enough for a full site.

Disliked The grass wasn’t mowed on the non electric field which was super wet in the morning. With it being up to my knees and kids waists lots of clothes got wet before breakfast and field was super hilly so hard to find a flat place to pitch up. Nice lady though!

From the manager: Hello. Thankyou for staying with us and apologies for the grass being long. Unfortunatley the tractor broke down and it was a couple of weeks before we could get a replacement. The lawn mower we use on other areas of the site is too small for the field. Usually the grass is much shorter in the tent field.
