  • Small family-run site with Ribble Valley views in Lancashire
  • A 20-minute drive to Gisburn Forest bike paths, Pendle Hill and Settle
  • Dog-friendly site with dedicated exercise area; pub 15 minutes’ walk
Keen to have a look at Lancashire and a sneaky peek into Yorkshire? Lurk for a while at Calder Farm for a peaceful break with views to Pendle Hill in the spectacular Ribble Valley. This is a scenic pitstop for exploring the Forest of Bowland National Landscape (10 minutes’ drive) or hopping counties into the Yorkshire Dales National Park (20 minutes). Sparkling clean facilities on this family-run site include a heated toilet block with disabled access to the showers and washing-up area. Barbecues are permitted (but not open campfires please), and you’ll need to bring your own firepit, although you can buy wood on site and picnic tables are provided on the tree-sheltered field. Stock up on barbecue supplies in the supermarkets of Clitheroe (15 minutes’ drive), and if you’re just not that into cooking on your Lancashire camping break, there’s a gastro-pub and microbrewery in the pretty village of Bolton by Bowland (15 minutes’ walk). Your family dogs are welcome to join you on the many footpaths direct from the site, and there’s also a dedicated dog-exercise area in a fenced field – the owners do ask, however, that dogs remain on a lead while around the site. And talking of animals, you’ll soon be firm friends with the horses and ponies grazing neighbouring fields.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Pitch area was good and the showers were warm and clean. The local pub in Bolton by Bowland village was lovely. The site is easily accessible and I liked the non electric field where we stayed as there were no restrictions on where you pitched the tent.

Disliked Could have better pot washing facilities nearer the non electric field (no hot water), but the other pot wash place is in easy walking distance

Acorn Pod camping pod

Liked We stayed in the Acorn Pod Saturday - Monday.
Genuinely one of the best of these small cabin type things I’ve stayed in, great layout and design, clean and comfortable, with pretty much everything you need. The underfloor heating was the cherry on top, it’s good to know we could comfortably visit again in the colder months. The campsite is calm and peaceful, and the pod has stunning views of Pendle Hill. It’s a short walk to the nearby village, with lots of options available by car.

Liked Second time here and, although much busier due to school hols, was still as good as the first visit in February and with better weather. Ideal location. Great local pub. The Bolton-by-Bowland circular is a lovely walk.
Great pitch sizes.
We were two people in a tourer and one in Acorn pod. We managed to pitch right next to the pod which worked out just perfectly.
Will definitely be back.

Disliked Nothing.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked The land, the view, the facilities, quiet after 10. Close to local pub. Peaceful, not crowded. Liked the unintrusive hosts though they were around and on hand when needed.

Disliked Would be good to have better recycling bins but maybe that's about the council waste policy.
