What customers say
This is a "back to basics" campsite with stunning views, praised for its friendly staff, cleanliness, and excellent hot showers. It's conveniently located for exploring the Lake District, though a car is recommended. Some guests found the portaloos basic and noted occasional noise issues from other campers, especially on weekends. The site is generally considered good value for money.

Clientele and facilities leave a lot to be desired.
Non-electric grass tent pitch
Liked Quiet location
Disliked Such a shame that this site has opened another field and now has too many people for the facilities provided, it was a lovely site last year.
Portaloos may aswell be long drops, human waste piled up above the bowl, flush not working, lack of toilet paper.
Showers fine until someone turns the washing up tap on, then the shower becomes a freezing cold dribble.
Shortly after hearing everyone's phones on the site receive the emergency warning from the government about fires, several campfires sprung up on the site, despite signs saying not to light them. No action was taken about this.
Large groups of extremely noisy people, one group of lads had very bassy music on late into the night, and there were children screaming running round the while site waking everyone up at 6:45am. One group decided they wanted our pitch and tried to intimidate us. Clientele leave a lot to be desired.
I text the campsite owners who did say they would deal with noise if it continued past 11pm, but miraculously we fell asleep before then.
We considered spending our second night in a layby down the road as we thought it would be more pleasant, wouldn't return.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are genuinely sorry that your stay did not live up to your expectations, particularly as you had enjoyed your visit with us last year.
We would, however, like to address some of the points raised, as we feel there are a few assumptions and issues that could have been dealt with differently had we been made aware of them during your stay.
You mention that we have opened another field and now have too many people for the facilities provided. While we did open an additional field, this was done to give campers more space to spread out rather than to increase the number of guests we accommodate. Our occupancy levels remained the same regardless of which field guests were staying in, so opening the additional field did not mean we increased the number of pitches on site.
Regarding the noise, you did contact us during the night and we responded to say that we would deal with it should it continue beyond our quiet hours. You subsequently informed us that the situation had calmed down and therefore under the impression that the immediate issue had been resolved. Had the noise continued or you contacted us again, we would have been happy to intervene.
We do accept that noise around the campsite should be managed, particularly late at night and early in the morning. However, as a family campsite, some level of daytime and morning noise from children is unfortunately unavoidable. We do ask all guests to be considerate of those around them, and we continue to make this clear through our campsite rules.
We were also not made aware at the time that another group had attempted to intimidate you or that there had been an issue regarding your pitch. This is something we would have taken seriously and investigated immediately had it been reported to us.
We also feel that the comment regarding our “clientele” is unfair. We welcome a wide range of guests, including families, couples and individuals, and we do not believe it is fair to make a blanket judgement about everyone staying on the campsite based on the behaviour of a small number of people.
That said, we do recognise that larger groups can sometimes have a negative impact on the experience of other campers. When we opened the campsite, we wanted to give everyone the opportunity to experience and enjoy it. Unfortunately, due to ongoing issues involving some group bookings, we are now changing our policies and will no longer be accepting large group bookings. We believe this will help us maintain the quieter, more relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere that we want the campsite to be known for.
Finally, we are genuinely sorry that you were considering leaving to spend the night elsewhere and that you felt your experience had deteriorated compared with your previous stay. Had you told us that you were unhappy enough to consider leaving, we would have happily discussed a refund for any unused night and allowed you to make alternative arrangements. We never want guests to feel they have to remain somewhere they are unhappy.
We completely accept that your experience did not meet the standard we want for our guests, and we will always take genuine feedback on board. However, better communication with us during your stay would have given us more opportunity to investigate the concerns you had, intervene where necessary and try to put things right.
We appreciate your feedback and are sorry that, on this occasion, we did not provide the experience you had hoped for
Great stay, no issues and the location is perfect for Windermere

Liked Great location
Clean & tidy
Showers were great
Check-in staff were really welcoming
Pizza Hut was a nice touch
Disliked I know it’s hard but maybe introduce a bit of a noise reduction curfew, just to get people to think about it. Couple of groups of lads who were only having a good time seemed to just be getting louder and louder through to 2am
