Set within 40 acres of private West Yorkshire parkland 10 minutes’ drive from the lively market town of Wetherby, the spacious pop-up bell tents at Stockeld Park sit amid greenery and offer an enticing blend of comfort and family fun. Each tent is furnished with four ‘proper’ beds – one cosy double and two singles – making it ideal for families or groups. Additional beds can be added for a small supplement.
A glamping stay gives you free access to all the family fun Stockeld Park has to offer; there’s more than 40 acres to explore and plenty to entertain all ages. You can search out magical creatures in the Enchanted Forest, tire yourselves out in adventure playgrounds and get lost in the Magical Maze. There are go-karts, inflatable slides and a jumping pillow to try, and The Playhive is filled with 20,000 square feet of indoor play areas (it’s great for rainy days). There’s also a full schedule of daily entertainment in the summer holidays (mid July to early September) – think live singers, bubble shows and silent discos.
When it comes to keeping the family fed and watered, you can cook at your bell tent – which comes with a compact kitchen corner – or make use of the park facilities. There are breakfast bites and snacks in the Woodland Café, pizzas fresh from the oven at The Playhive Pizzeria and all the drinks and ice cream that kids can possibly consume on sale at Gretel’s Cabin.

Local attractions
Should you tire of the adventure park, you can follow footpaths across the estate to the village of Spofforth (half an hour’s walk), where there’s a ruined castle free to wander and a popular pub. From there, a railway path runs into Wetherby (just over an hour/10 minutes by car), where you can stroll along the River Wharfe, play golf or test your mountain-biking skills on The Devil’s Toe Nail Bike Track.
Stately Harrogate (20 minutes’ drive) has fine blooms in RHS Garden Harlow Carr and the Valley Gardens as well as a Victorian-era spa for weary grown-ups to relax in. You can also scoff a scone and a cuppa at the landmark Bettys Café Tea Rooms or eat global food in the town’s many restaurants.
If you fancy stepping back in time, walk around the ancient walls of York (40 minutes), take a free guided tour of the medieval Minster and browse the half-timbered stores in The Shambles, an atmospheric cobbled alley claiming to be the oldest shopping street in the UK.
