  • Peaceful family campsite in Yorkshire's pretty Aire Valley
  • A quarter of an hour's drive from Skipton and Saltaire
  • Within a quarter of a mile of bus stops and a railway station
Planning some travels that don’t rely on a car? This could well be the spot – Tip Top Campsite, on the banks of the Aire River, is within a quarter of a mile of public transport options like a railway station and bus stop, making it easy to get out and about exploring nearby places like Skipton, Ilkley and Saltaire. Not that there’s any reason to stray that far if you don’t want to. This site is in a great spot for exploring the surrounding Aire Valley on walks or bike rides – and amenities aren’t far off either. Steeton (a mile away) has a small supermarket, takeaway and restaurant, while the nearby village of Silsden (three quarters of a mile) has cafés, a larger supermarket and access to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal towpath. Staying on site for a while may well be an option, too – river fishing is allowed in the Aire if you've got the correct licence (although landing fish on the steep bank can be difficult), and the grounds are generally a supremely peaceful place to relax. The site is full of greenery, including over 800 willow trees and a small woodland by the beck that meanders through the farm. All of that foliage attracts wildlife, but the site is also home to domesticated animals like Kunekune pigs, geese, bees and hens that visitors are welcome to meet. Because of all the animals, please make sure that you use the designated dog exercise field if you're bringing a four-legged friend. Handily, the site also has two (7kWh) electrical vehicle charging points for guests to use.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: -high quality shower and toilet block -within 15 min walk to supermarket -has pigs on farm and dairy cows on the field opposite - really friendly owners - can offload at pitch site, then move car to the car park

Disliked: - as it is close to an A-road you get some white noise of cars, but you forget about it once you’ve been there for an hour or two.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Absolutely everything. Second time visiting and hopefully will be back again soon. The staff are helpful, welcoming, and friendly. The site itself is beautiful with plenty of places to pitch up, whether it's by the trees or the river, the ground is nice and flat in most of the areas so it's a comfy place to sleep. The toilets are clean and well maintained, there's a communal area with a fridge, microwave, kettle, sink etc, as well as a place to charge things you may need. The showers are really spacious and nice. You can rent a Firepit and buy some wood, this proved really well when it decided to be 4c in the middle of June, so we could stay outside, warm and look at the stars. There's also disposable BBQs you can buy, so even if you travel light you can easily cook up some food if the weather is nice. Fresh eggs too, straight from the farm! The surrounding area is nothing short of stunning, there's a beautiful town a short 5 minutes walk away with lots of shops and pubs that serve great food and drink. Plenty of short and long walks to go on too, I've still not tackled all of them yet either. It's also close to a bunch of other beautiful places such as Haworth and Skipton, which can be easily reached by car, bus, or train, all of which are accessible within 5 minutes of leaving the campsite. If you're anything like me and love nature and wildlife, the site is perfect. I think I was driving my partner up the wall pointing out every last thing that I saw. It's great for wildlife photography, or just watching with binoculars, you'll get plenty of birds flying around especially, at all times of day. The price is really great too, what you get for what you pay is frankly astounding, I'd happily pay more if I'm being honest, but the price makes the site extra appealing too I guess. All I can really say now is, if you've never been before, I really recommend you do. It's an amazing campsite, run by wonderful people, and in an idyllic location. Thank you to the staff and I look forward to visiting again soon!

Disliked: Nothing whatsoever, even when trying to be nitpicky I cannot find a single thing I dislikes about both of my times here.

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Everything! It was so peaceful, the facilities were great. The owners were SO friendly and accommodating, it was very dog friendly, and there were lots of little extras like fire pits, microwave, fridges etc. Also loved that there were a limited number of pitches so it would always be tranquil. We will definitely be back.

Disliked: Nothing!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: We stayed only one night and wished we could stay more! Really friendly small and welcoming site with spacious grass pitches amidst gorgeous views on all sides. Fab facilities included large fridge and microwave and various racquets bats and balls for outdoor games plus small seating area and board games in barn area accessible at any time. V clean facilities. Eggs for sale and chiminea for hire, was lovely to hire this and watch the sunset. Cars not on main field but close so great for kids to play, lots of space for that. Can also visit friendly pigs, chickens and geese in field next to pitches over a little bridge. Amazing place to explore. Trails for walking or running straight from the site. Skipton only a ten minute car or train ride. Can get her easily by train only 5 mins walk from Steeton and Silsden train station.

Disliked: Nothing about campsite it was great! Access from train station is only 5 mins walk but roads were busy at rush hour. (But not a problem)

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Absolute gem of a site !! Stayed four nights , tent - none electric. The Host Carol was really welcoming.. very relaxed vibe about the place . Pitch where you like .Firepits and chimineas to hire , fresh eggs to buy . Excellent clean, brand new unisex shower block . Microwave and kettle for campers use in the barn ..and the best bit ...pigs !! We were able to go in and feed and stroke them ..my 12 Yr old was in his element !!! Excellent value for money and already booked a return stay . There's double pods on site too for anyone not too sure about tent camping! Aldi 5 mins up road ..Silsden village 10 mins walk .. definitely worth a visit !!

Disliked: Absolutely nothing apart from the weather and there's not much anyone can do about that 😂.

Local attractions

Once you’ve thoroughly explored the Aire Valley, there’s plenty more for walkers and cyclists to see over in the Yorkshire Dales National Park (20 minutes’ drive), or with a meander along the towpath of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal (five minutes). Or, if you’d like your outdoor time to be filled in a different way, perhaps try the Silsden Golf Driving Range (two minutes). Places for a gentle stroll are plentiful, too – maybe you’d like to wander the grounds of Cliffe Castle Museum and Park (10 minutes) and the gorgeous Bolton Abbey estate (20 minutes) or take a tour through the well-preserved medieval rooms of Skipton Castle (15 minutes). The Italianate architecture of ‘model village’ Saltaire (15 minutes) makes this another lovely place for a day out. For other options, take a trip to Ilkley (15 minutes) to swim in the river and try out its foodie shops, learn about one of the nation’s favourite literary families at Brontë Parsonage Museum (20 minutes) or visit the Royal Pump Museum and have tea at Betty's Tea Rooms in Harrogate (40 minutes).
