  • Friendly wild camping woodland site on a Yorkshire farm
  • A five-minute drive to Haworth and half an hour to Skipton
  • Fresh eggs and breakfast, lunch and dinner packages available on site
Let lovely rural Yorkshire introduce itself at Higher Heights Farm. Set in an enclosed woodland within a farm and livery yard, this is a place to get up close and personal with the animals. Horses graze in the fields next to the woodland, and chickens roam free (their daily fresh eggs are available to buy). Plus, you might get to witness the sheep lambing and the cows having their calves if you’re here at the right time. Breakfast, lunch and evening meal packages using homegrown or locally-sourced products are also up for grabs. With seating around a quiet pond, lunch could double up as wildlife watching time. You’re probably going to be pretty hungry after setting off on the miles of moorland walks accessible from the farm (for all abilities, by the way). So, it’ll be music to your ears that there are lots of local pubs where you can quench your hunger and thirst. Two of those are within walking distance of the farm; and if you’d like to try the traditional pub food that the owner and their parents have been serving for over 28 years, their family-run pub and restaurant is a 10-minute drive away from the site. There are lots of cute little shops, cafés and pubs along the cobbled main street in Haworth, which is a five-minute drive or a 50-minute walk away. The Yorkshire village also has a museum dedicated to the Brontë family and a steam railway. Actually, the local villages have lots going on to entertain everyone throughout the year, with a three-mile straw race taking place yearly in Oxenhope and 1940s- and 1960s-themed weekends happening in Haworth yearly.

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked: View, size of the campsite and toilet facilities.

Disliked: I was under the impression that the site was a quite one, as stated no music. However soon after arrival, a group of children turned up having some sort of activity weekend? Treasure hunt set up next to the tents, so was disturbed by children when trying to relax. Noise could be heard from the top field until late at night, then early in the morning. If I’d have know this would be the case, I would not have booked.

From the manager: Hi there, thank you for the review and I’m sorry the children’s team bonding charity day ruined your experience. The treasure hunt had one point which was “near” the tent and lasted no more than 20 minutes. The children were all asleep by 11pm and noise was stopped by us purposely at 10 so we didn’t affect our campers. Maybe if you don’t want to be “disturbed” by children having fun then an adults only site would be best for you!

Thank you so much, we will definitely stay again

Liked: The peace and quiet, amazing views, super friendly hosts including the most polite tiny hosts in training 😊, being back to basics was lovely too.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike...only plus would have been a way to access the plots however the loan of a wheelbarrow was so appreciated thank you 😊

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked: The owners were lovely and patient, we were running late due to us missing a turn off and they were kind enough to wait for us. We couldn’t find the place where it was as it was tucked away, but I contacted them and they guided us there :) Once we arrived they showed us where to go and what the rules ect were (not really asking much of us except to be clean and tidy :) and shitting the gate. The land where it’s pitched up is beautiful and such an amazing view to wake up to and the price were reasonably cheap in comparison to other places we looked. Would definitely book again and recommend to anyone wanting to wild camp in a beautiful location.

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked: Lovely, no frills site. Super friendly owner on my arrival, gave me a welcome letter and some info and then left me to get on with it which was perfect for me, personally I think there's nothing worse than an overbearing host so I really appreciated being left to it. As stated it is more of a wild camping experience with slightly uneven ground but if you take your time finding a spot, it's not an issue. I felt really safe as a solo female camper. No noise in the evening or overnight which made for a very peaceful sleep. I will 100% be returning here many times.

Disliked: Nothing to say, it was perfect.

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked: Nice quiet site, we were the only ones there so we had the whole field to ourselves. Lots of choice and variety of where to pitch, all on a slight slope. It’s wild camping with a proper flushing toilet and somewhere to do the washing up, what more do you need? The grass was very uneven but we did alright, so glad we brought the air beds. Would definitely recommend and will hopefully be back again soon.

Local attractions

Haworth has plenty to take you (theoretically) back in time for a short while, especially when it comes to the Brontë family. A highlight is the Brontë Parsonage Museum (10 minutes’ drive), which has manuscripts which belonged to the three sisters. Another historic spot in the village is the station for the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway (five minutes), a steam railway that runs experiences like Yorkshire afternoon tea. Keep your eyes peeled for the famed The Flying Scotsman steam train while you’re there. The market at Skipton (half an hour) is popular with locals, and runs on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Afterwards, call by the 900-year-old castle, ruined priory or the cobbled high street. Halifax (half an hour) is yet another historic Yorkshire destination. The Piece Hall, a Grade I-listed building and the only surviving 18th-century Georgian cloth hall in the world, is particularly unique. The inside of the hall has lots of little shops and bars to browse.
