  • Friendly wild camping woodland site on a Yorkshire farm
  • A five-minute drive to Haworth and half an hour to Skipton
  • Fresh eggs and breakfast, lunch and dinner packages available on site
Let lovely rural Yorkshire introduce itself at Higher Heights Farm. Set in an enclosed woodland within a farm and livery yard, this is a place to get up close and personal with the animals. Horses graze in the fields next to the woodland, and chickens roam free (their daily fresh eggs are available to buy). Plus, you might get to witness the sheep lambing and the cows having their calves if you’re here at the right time. Breakfast, lunch and evening meal packages using homegrown or locally-sourced products are also up for grabs. With seating around a quiet pond, lunch could double up as wildlife watching time. You’re probably going to be pretty hungry after setting off on the miles of moorland walks accessible from the farm (for all abilities, by the way). So, it’ll be music to your ears that there are lots of local pubs where you can quench your hunger and thirst. Two of those are within walking distance of the farm; and if you’d like to try the traditional pub food that the owner and their parents have been serving for over 28 years, their family-run pub and restaurant is a 10-minute drive away from the site. There are lots of cute little shops, cafés and pubs along the cobbled main street in Haworth, which is a five-minute drive or a 50-minute walk away. The Yorkshire village also has a museum dedicated to the Brontë family and a steam railway. Actually, the local villages have lots going on to entertain everyone throughout the year, with a three-mile straw race taking place yearly in Oxenhope and 1940s- and 1960s-themed weekends happening in Haworth yearly.

Local attractions

Haworth has plenty to take you (theoretically) back in time for a short while, especially when it comes to the Brontë family. A highlight is the Brontë Parsonage Museum (10 minutes’ drive), which has manuscripts which belonged to the three sisters. Another historic spot in the village is the station for the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway (five minutes), a steam railway that runs experiences like Yorkshire afternoon tea. Keep your eyes peeled for the famed The Flying Scotsman steam train while you’re there. The market at Skipton (half an hour) is popular with locals, and runs on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Afterwards, call by the 900-year-old castle, ruined priory or the cobbled high street. Halifax (half an hour) is yet another historic Yorkshire destination. The Piece Hall, a Grade I-listed building and the only surviving 18th-century Georgian cloth hall in the world, is particularly unique. The inside of the hall has lots of little shops and bars to browse.
