  • Gravel motorhome pitches on a farm in Austerfield, South Yorkshire
  • Yorkshire Wildlife Park 10 minutes’ drive; Clumber Park 25 minutes
  • Milk, bread and eggs sold on site; pub next door
Convenience combines with semi-rural peace when you stay at Home Farm and Lodge, a farm site with a small number of gravel tourer and campervan pitches in the South Yorkshire village of Austerfield. Quiet and surrounded by lush gardens (full of eco-friendly bug hotels, nest boxes and a hedgehog house) these pitches may be, but they are only 10 minutes’ drive from Junction 34 on the A1 – handy if you’re stopping over on your way north or south. This is a basic spot with few facilities (no waste water disposal and no electric hook-ups) and please be aware that restrictions apply to the main entrance to the site – the gate has a 9.75-foot width. However, fresh water is available, and you can buy some basic groceries on site, including milk, bread and eggs. There’s a pub right next door if you feel like a break from self-catering, and you can stretch your legs with a walk alongside the River Idle (15 minutes’ stroll).

Bay 1 non-electric gravel motorhome pitch

Liked Touring pitches were large and set in an interesting garden/farm with animals and attractive planting. Owner was friendly. The site makes a good stopover when travelling, with good access to major roads. Pub is literally next door, service there was friendly and food acceptable but expensive.

Disliked We felt it was somewhat overpriced considering the lack of facilities, literally just a water tap. Most of the basic stopovers we use do offer some kind of grey water disposal at the very least.

Would love to stay here again

Bay 1 non-electric gravel motorhome pitch

Liked A really nice site for an overnight stop with a motorhome, or even if you wanted to explore the area.
The pitch was flat and the garden area lovely, it would be a great stopover in warmer weather. Kerry was very friendly and we loved seeing the chickens and geese at the bottom of the garden area.

Consiglio assolutamente per una tappa rilassante durante un viaggio…

Bay 1 non-electric gravel motorhome pitch

Liked Kerry and Richard are fantastic hosts. Communication was brilliant and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Home farm and Lodge is at a great location with everything on your doorstep. And oh my goodness the eggs from Kerry's own chickens are so good! Thank you ever so much for looking after us. We would love to visit again soon. Would absolutely recommend.

Local attractions

If you have kids in tow, the Yorkshire Wildlife Park (10 minutes’ drive) could be your first port of call for informative keeper talks and walking safaris through big-cat enclosures. Also nearby, you could book family archery sessions and get thoroughly mucky running around at Bawtry Paintball Fields, or let the kids loose on the junior biking track at Doncaster Moto Parc (both five minutes). Bag some stately homes with a visit to the restored Victorian apartments and formal gardens at Brodsworth Hall and Gardens, or tour the Georgian-era interiors and picnic in the grounds at Cusworth Hall, Museum and Park. At National Trust-owned Clumber Park (all 25 minutes), you can stroll tree-lined lanes to follies, walled gardens and the Gothic-style Chapel of St Mary. Racing fans can have a flutter at Doncaster Racecourse, and anyone looking to hunt down some retail bargains can browse the discount outlets at Lakeside Village Outlet Shopping (both 15 minutes). Kids bored with shopping? Make for the vintage planes, fighter jets and helicopters at South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum (20 minutes).
