  • Peaceful adults-only site on 17 rural acres, 15 minutes from Doncaster
  • Within an hour of York, the east coast and Peak District National Park
  • Well-stocked fishing lake plus spotless modern amenities
A chilled-out day of fishing, surrounded by 17 acres of woods and grassland for guaranteed peace and quiet while you’re at it: it doesn’t come much better than this… Well… unless you could stretch that serene vibe out by staying there overnight and coming back for a bit more tomorrow. And indeed you can at South Yorkshire site Beech Tree Park, where the pitches are handily placed a mere short saunter from the water’s edge – how’s that for easy access to a day (or preferably a few) of fishing? It’s unlikely that you’ve come here in search of noisy parties and non-stop entertainment, so the family-run site here has been kept accordingly low-key on the facilities front: free wifi, electric hook-ups and a toilet/shower block that’s reserved for overnight guests (with keys given out upon arrival to ensure no incursions by other passers by). Should you require a break from the lakeside action, this handy Hatfield Woodhouse location is well placed for easy comings and goings, with several main roads and motorways in the vicinity. Any requirements for urban amenities can be sorted in Doncaster, 15 minutes' drive away and your nearest hub for shops, restaurants and the like.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Pitch was large

Disliked First day took a walk and dead fish scattered around the path . The grass needed a good cut and the weeds around the pitch were a bit much . There was also a steak knife on the pitch next to us that had been left which my dogs could have easily stood on

From the manager: Good morning,

Thank you for taking the time to give us a review. We are sorry to hear of your experience but thank you again for taking the time to bring these issues to our attention. The park is under new management and the team are still finding their feet. the next few weeks will see a period of transition for the park including a full make over of the estate. The fish have been removed and we will be issuing notices to all people who fish on the lake to remember this is a catch and release lake. Going forward, we will also be checking pitch's on departure to ensure they are clean for the next incumbent.

Kind regards

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Quiet site, rustic setting.

Disliked The gated access was an issue. We hadn’t been allocated the mobile number to open / close the gate, this took a couple of requests and attempts by site staff to sort out. This was later explained that they were busy and hadn’t set us up on the system. Another couple had the same issue at the time.
No food was being served due to kitchen upgrades. This wasn’t explained on arrival so disappointed when we asked at meal time. Alternate local restaurant was found.
Checkout times differed from what was advertised on Pitchup, the letter given when checking in asks for 10am departure not 11:30am as stated on Pitchup. These issues were all blamed on new management takeover.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked A lovely warm welcome awaits at beech tree park . Lovely staff and a lovely setting around fishing lakes . Plenty of ducks on the lake that just wander around the site. Clean toilets / shower blocks and an onsite bar selling a small range of drinks . Food can be purchased I believe but there was only sandwiches available when we went .

Disliked Duck poo everywhere. You couldn’t step on the grass without stepping in it. With a lake you also get midges flying all over, they wouldn’t leave me alone. Our pitch was very large but unfortunately it had rubbish along the back of it in the form of an old battery and a broken tent . When we came to check out we were locked in the site and had to wait over half a hour as the lady who operated the gate had gone for petrol in her car . Not good when people want to leave . She did however apologise for this and vowed to make it up to up with free drinks if we ever return .

From the manager: Good morning,

Thank you for taking the time to give us a review. We are sorry to hear of your experience but thank you again for taking the time to bring these issues to our attention. Unfortunately we cannot do much about the duck poo and the midges - we will be cleaning the paths on a more regular basis during peak times. The park is under new management and the team are still finding their feet. The next few weeks will see a period of transition for the park including a full make over of the estate. Including the removal of maintenance debris and a new access/exit system.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Lovely warm welcome from Col who runs the secure site with his partner Dawn. Very relaxed vibe, no petty rules or strange restrictions on how to position your motorhome. Your pitch is yours for the duration of your stay long as you're within the confines of it (IYKYK!).
Nice hot showers and clean facilities. Nothing was too much trouble, even though they run the place themselves and were very busy.
The bar is quirky, but in a good way (being at the side of a paddock which houses two horses). Col and Dawn were entertaining hosts and we had a great time. Col has great taste in music!!
If you like natural countryside, this is one for you. Don't expect white picket fences, fruit machines and 'don't fall in the water!' signs!!
Also, if you like fishing you'll love the lakes here.
All in all a very pleasant, relaxing and enjoyable stay. We would highly recommend and are going to go again.

Local attractions

The fishing’s the main thing here, but it’s far from the only thing… you could easily fill many a day touring the surrounds too. If you want that nature hit with a bit more activity, you might like to head west for an hour or so to hike or bike in the Peak District National Park, or plot a course east to hit the coast at Cleethorpes in roughly the same length of time. Rather watch other folks doing all the energetic things? (Fair enough, you’re on hols…) The famed Doncaster Racecourse is 20 minutes away; if there’s nothing on there, check out the course at York (50 minutes away) instead. York’s worth a visit even if you’re not into the horses: the minster, the National Railway Museum and the Jorvik Viking Centre are among the reasons to visit, and the historic centre is fab for an amble. Guests with an eye for all things that go may want to take a trip into Doncaster to see a splendid collection of historic planes at South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum (20 minutes) or book ahead to get up close to the groundbreaking Vulcan that resides at the National Aviation Academy (10 minutes). If you prefer your attractions living and breathing, hit the Yorkshire Wildlife Park (15 minutes) instead.
