  • Peaceful adults-only site 15 minutes' drive from Doncaster
  • Within an hour of York, the east coast and Peak District National Park
  • On 17 rural acres; well-stocked fishing lake and modern amenities
A chilled-out day of fishing, surrounded by 17 acres of woods and grassland for peace and quiet while you’re at it: it doesn’t come much better than this… Well… unless you could stretch that serene vibe out by staying there overnight and coming back for a bit more tomorrow. And indeed you can at South Yorkshire site Beech Tree Park, where the pitches are handily placed a mere short saunter from the water’s edge – how’s that for easy access to a day (or preferably a few) of fishing? It’s unlikely that you’ve come here in search of noisy parties and non-stop entertainment, so the family-run site here has been kept accordingly low-key on the facilities front with an amenities block with toilets (available 24 hours per day) and showers; they're for guests only, so keys are given out upon arrival to ensure no incursions by other passersby. There's also a small bar that's open on Friday and Saturday evenings for a social drink or two. Should you require a break from the lakeside action, this handy Hatfield Woodhouse location is well placed for easy comings and goings, with several main roads and motorways in the vicinity. Any requirements for urban amenities can be sorted in Doncaster, 15 minutes' drive away and your nearest hub for shops, restaurants and the like.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked First time on this site for just one night to check it out. Will definitely be returning. Nice quiet site with loads of fish been caught. A special mention for gaynor the warden who looked after us and even supplied us with her spare electric cable as we forgot ours. Thank you and will see you again soon. Also spotless facilities

Disliked Only one minor but it’s the rules. I love my dog sitting with me when I’m fishing but not allowed but it’s not by no means a complaint

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked The shower didn't have the usual push-buttons, it was just a regular one.

Disliked We went there specifically to fish, but unfortunately, the two lakes we could have used were completely unsuitable. They were teeming with fish—you could almost scoop them out with your bare hands—and the entire park was very neglected! All things considered, we had a good rest, but like I said, it's completely unsuitable for fishing!!!!

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Absolutely amazing campsite! From the moment we arrived, the staff were fantastic. We were shown around the site when we first got there, and she took the time to chat with us during our stay, which made us feel really welcome.
The whole site was spotless, quiet, and incredibly well looked after. Sitting by the lake was so peaceful and relaxing – exactly what we were looking for.
The facilities were the best we've ever used at a campsite. They were always clean, close to where we pitched our trailer, and the shower was brilliant. The water was lovely and hot, and the water pressure was excellent, which is something you don't always get when camping!
We honestly couldn't fault the place. We had an amazing weekend and will definitely be coming back again very soon. Highly recommended!

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked The site was very quiet and peaceful. The lady in reception was so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The fishing was really good, plenty of carp in the pond.

Disliked Not a dislike but from where we were pitched it was a bit of a walk to the chemical disposal point but hey ho.

Liked Friendly management, good open spaced pitches, clean toilet & shower block, plus fishing on site.

Disliked Waste product left by geese.

From the manager: Thankyou for your kind review.
Unfortunately the geese wont be leaving until their young are ready to fly but we are doing our best to keep the site as free as we can by sweeping the paths and cleaning the table areas. We also take the mower out and try to collect the poo as we cut the grass.

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked Lots of space. Welcoming staff and all facilities clearly marked.
Overall the place had a friendly feel.
Water and greywater disposal points in very easy reach.
Nice to see the pools and the carp surfacing, even though I was passing through and not there to fish. The fishing pitches were good.
The site seemed quite new to me and will come into it's own in a few years time.

Disliked Quite a few dried dog poos left around the site - may be ok if you're in a campervan, less so if camping. (alot of goose poo too and I'm not confusing them.

From the manager: Thankyou for your positive feedback. We can only apologise if there was dog mess in the area you were in. As much as it is no excuse the park is currently under a management restructure and this is something i am very keen on and should not be an issue going forwards. Unfortunately the geese are a constant battle but we do try and tidy after them as much as possible.

This is a hidden gem. Few minor tweeks and will be special.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Very quiet site, the bar is fantastic but only open Friday and Saturday. Saw deer just outside the site gates. Staff are all friendly. Shower wasn’t one of the push button ones. Lakes look stacked full of fish if that is your thing. Lots of wildlife.

Disliked There are a family of Canada Geese that have made the site a home. Quite a lot of Goose poop around the place.

From the manager: Thankyou for lovely feedback. We do have a sit on mower but it is poorly at the moment. hopefully have it in action in the next few days. We will be updating the pictures soon.

Local attractions

The fishing’s the main thing here, but it’s far from the only thing… you could easily fill many a day touring the surrounds too. If you want that nature hit with a bit more activity, you might like to head west for an hour or so to hike or bike in the Peak District National Park, or plot a course east to hit the coast at Cleethorpes in roughly the same length of time. Rather watch other folks doing all the energetic things? (Fair enough, you’re on hols…) The famed Doncaster Racecourse is 20 minutes away; if there’s nothing on there, check out the course at York (50 minutes away) instead. York’s worth a visit even if you’re not into the horses: the minster, the National Railway Museum and the Jorvik Viking Centre are among the reasons to visit, and the historic centre is fab for an amble. Guests with an eye for all things that go may want to take a trip into Doncaster to see a splendid collection of historic planes at South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum (20 minutes) or book ahead to get up close to the groundbreaking Vulcan that resides at the National Aviation Academy (10 minutes). If you prefer your attractions living and breathing, hit the Yorkshire Wildlife Park (15 minutes) instead.
