Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked The view

Disliked The noise from the main road,
no paper towels/hand dryer in the toilets, no lock on the mens toilet door so the men were using the women’s toilet,
the toilets were covered in spiders webs.

Electric grass and gravel tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Scenery was amazing, walk to Derwent reservoir was lovely, campsite chickens very cute, Hot shower, ladies toilets ok kept clean with plenty of toilet roll, staff in pub/restaurant next door were really nice, good food.

Disliked Electric pitches were quite small, campsite kept having power cuts, no lock on one of male toilets n no hand drying facilities in any of toilets. Busy main road to the front of camp.

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked I just love this camping spot. Such amazing views and the owner is so helpful and kind. I was here last year with my Tentbox but due to it being stolen, I'm was back with a tent.
My tent space was huge, ideal for the toilet blocks.
I really like the circular arrangement of the camping spot and it caters for everyone. I was at the top and closest to the road. To be honest I slept so well. It was very windy when I was there. My new tent held up thankfully.
I really liked the washing up area.

Disliked Only two female loos but just a short wait in the morning, wasn't an issue at all.

Electric grass and gravel tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Easy check in and directed to pitch. Proximate to Derwent Reservoir.
A 40 minute drive from home.
Toilets and showers were clean and plenty of hot water in showers.

Disliked Pitched next to a building site that could have been screened at least. I don’t want to see a building site and piles of rubble when I go away for the weekend.
Mens toilet door doesn’t lock, a dribble of hot water and no hand drying facilities. Advice would be to change signs to W.C so all can use all toilets. Good job I took my own chemical toilet!
Toilet/shower block is either unfinished or standards allow unfinished plasterboard, badly finished OSB board and wouldn’t take much to bring to a better standard. Baffling why it has been left this way. Reviews from June commented about door lock. We camp yes, but don’t mistake camping for roughing it and putting up with inferior facilities.

Local attractions

An easy – and recommended – first stopoff is Derwent Reservoir, in a handsome setting a few miles from Bolbec Manor. Take a hike (or stroll) on the well-maintained paths to Pow Hill Country Park on the south shore or Millshield picnic area on the north, or take the longer bike route around the reservoir covering some local roads as well. Drop into the visitor centre for info, the key to the bird hide on Derwent’s western edge, or a fishing permit: Derwent is a popular pick for Co Durham trout fishing. Around the North Pennines AONB, it’s well worth the 45-minute drive to Ninebanks near Hexham to access Isaac’s Tea Trail, a circular 37-mile route from there to Alston via Allendale and Nenthead. The same distance to the south and also well worth the drive is the famed waterfall of High Force, where the entire River Tees plunges 21 feet over a cliff; get to the waterfall via the Pennine Way stretch crossing the Moor House Upper Teesdale National Nature Reserve. Also to the south, the market town of Bishop Auckland is home to Auckland Castle and its 800 acres of parkland, and to Binchester Roman Fort (this is Hadrian’s Wall land), a Roman fortress on the banks of the River Wear. Somewhat more modern history is at Durham and its must-see stunning cathedral.
