  • Peaceful seven-acre site on a Northumberland working farm
  • Five minutes' drive to Hadrian's Wall; 15 minutes to Hexham
  • Families, dogs and groups welcome; accessible bathrooms available
Fabulous scenery meets fascinating history in the area around Greencarts – this peaceful Northumberland spot is in the lovely North Tyne Valley, tucked away between the Northumberland National Park and the North Pennines National Landscape. With spectacular countryside all around and the excellent Hadrian’s Wall just up the road too, it should make a nice stopover for walkers and cyclists. There are seven acres of camping grounds available at this working farm, so there’s plenty of space to go around. All sorts of guests are welcome here, including families, dog owners and groups, but please remember that this is a place that values peace and quiet – it’s not somewhere that tolerates groups that want to drink and make noise. Facilities on site include picnic tables, a launderette, a chemical disposal point and a washing-up area, and you’ll have access to bathroom facilities that include wheelchair-accessible areas. A small number of fire baskets are available to hire on site for cosy campfire evenings; those who’d rather be indoors for the evening can head to the pub five minutes’ drive away in Humshaugh. The village also has a shop, and there are supermarkets 15 minutes’ drive away in Hexham. Hadrian’s Wall is the big attraction around here, and you can hardly miss it – some of its top spots (including the Temple of Mithras and Housesteads Roman Fort) are within 10 minutes’ drive. Greencarts also makes a great base for walks in the national park, outings to Kielder Water and touring grand estates like those at Belsay Hall and Cragside.

What customers say

This peaceful, well-maintained farm site offers ample space and beautiful views. Guests praised the friendly hosts, good value, and clean basic facilities, including hot showers. Its location is ideal for exploring Hadrian's Wall. Some minor points raised include dated bathroom fixtures and occasional noise from larger groups, though the site's size generally ensures privacy. Animal lovers enjoyed the resident farm animals.

Disliked My only concern was the tables for the bunkhouse were bang outside the toilets, a little off putting when going for a dump or shower,

Non-electric grass and earth pitch

Liked Good value for money. It was very peaceful during the week. Field is huge and mostly flat, apart from where the EHU pitches are.

Disliked Bathrooms are a bit dated - showers could do with new shower heads as current ones are covered in limescale.
At the weekend large group of tents arrived and they were playing loud music and shouting way past 11pm - however there are no rules for this campsite saying there is a quiet time so I was not sure if I could even complain about it to. I do prefer sites with clear rules on noise after certain time of the night.

Liked Lovely quiet farm site, a choice of fields to pitch in. Fire pits available to use and picnic benches. Toilets and showers. Lovely views and nice clear skies to see the stars. Ideal for campers, cars and motorbikes.

Disliked No dislikes, second time I've visited. Recommended to friends who will probably visit again too.
