  • Peaceful serviced touring pitches at a fishery just outside Chatton
  • Northumberland coast and Cheviot Hills both 15 minutes' drive
  • Four fishing lakes on site, with hot food, bait sales and rod hire
Fancy a spot of fishing? In gorgeous north Numberland, Chatton Lakes Caravan Park has a fantastic four fishing lakes, giving guests supremely easy access to top-quality trout fishing right there on site. These well-stocked lakes are complemented by an equally well-appointed fishing lodge that has toilets (including an accessible toilet) and rod hire facilities and sells bait, snacks and hot drinks and food. The village of Chatton is about 10 minutes’ walk away for a pub and shop; for anything else you need, you can drive to the market town of Wooler in around 10 minutes. If you’re looking to unwind, this is just the place – whether you choose to fish or not. It’s in a peaceful rural spot with views across the lovely Cheviot Hills by day and dark skies that lend themselves to some splendid stargazing by night. The touring pitches have been nicely set up with all amenities (electricity, water and waste disposal) but please note that the site has no showers or toilets (other than those in the fishing lodge). Depending on the kind of break you have in mind, you may well simply choose to spend most of your time at the lakes with your rod. There are plenty of options if you’d like to get out and about, however – the Northumberland coast is about 15 minutes’ drive away, giving you access to places like Bamburgh Castles and Alnwick Castle, and if you head inland it’s a similar length of drive to the northern tip of the Northumberland National Park.

What customers say

This well-maintained campsite offers beautiful views and a peaceful atmosphere, ideal for fishing enthusiasts. Pitches are level, with water and electric hookups readily available. Guests consistently praise the friendly and helpful owners, as well as the good communication. The village is within easy walking distance. The primary drawback mentioned is the absence of toilet and shower facilities for non-anglers, though some visitors found the price high given this limitation. Entry gates are narrow.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Booked a six night stay at chatton trout fisheries, when you turn up you just find a vacant pitch and set up, the pitch sizes are a decent size consisting of hard standing and grass, so if you do put an awning up it will be on the grass, each post has its own electric and water supply so that’s a bonus if you want to hook up to the mains water, you’ll still need to use you waste master for grey water, over all the caravan paddock was very clean and well maintained. The phone signal was good, no WiFi on site but I used our Starlink so with such an open area I had fantastic service. Road noise was very minimal with the site being well away from any major roads, on a night time it was so peaceful and as for the night sky’s, that was brilliant, on a clear night it’s a star gazer’s paradise The owners state that no toilet or shower facilities are available, but they only accept motor homes/campers and caravans so that shouldn’t be an issue for anyone. The new owners David and Gemma are both friendly and helpful and I’m sure they will make a great success of the place. Would I recommend, a well run site with some excellent trout fishing lake just yards from your doorstep, yes I’d 100% recommend it and I will be back.

Liked It's the 2nd time we have stayed here we love it, location is really handy for the northumberland coastline, lots of walks near by, pub is 10 min walk into chatton dog friendly and food is nice 👌. Last night was a clear sky it was pitch black and the stars were amazing. And trout fishing onsite is a bonus as well 😀

Local attractions

If you look up at the Cheviot Hills from the site you’ll probably spot that they’re laced with a network of trails for walking and mountain biking. This gorgeous rural area doesn’t get heaps of visitors so you should be in for a very peaceful outing here, whichever route you pick. For a slightly easier stroll, head to the National Trust site St Cuthbert’s Cave (15 minutes’ drive), said to be the final resting place of a monk with spiritual powers. There are some lovely walks over in the Northumberland Coast National Landscape (15 minutes) as well. Seahouses (25 minutes) is a popular place for a stroll followed by a game of crazy golf and a fish supper; it’s also the starting point for boat trips to the Farne Islands where you may spot seals, puffins and other wildlife depending on the season. Add a bit of heritage to the mix with trips to haunted Chillingham Castle (five minutes), seaside Bamburgh Castle (20 minutes) and Alnwick Castle (25 minutes), famed for its Harry Potter connections.
