  • Scenic family-run farm site in the North York Moors National Park
  • A 10-minute drive from Runswick Bay; 20 minutes from Whitby
  • Vending machine with local pasteurised milk, milkshakes and cake
From setting sail from a local harbour and paddling down at the beach to riding steam trains and wandering round abbey ruins, you’ll be able to mix and match your activities on and off the North Yorkshire shores at Woodhill Camping. This family-run site is part of a working livestock and arable farm in the North York Moors National Park, 10 minutes’ drive away from Runswick Bay and 20 minutes from Whitby. The site has a few specialities. The first is its vending machine which sells locally-produced pasteurised milk, milkshakes and cake… and the second, well, that's the rather sublime views of the moors, hills and dales. While it may be half a mile from the A171 (a convenient link to the surrounding attractions), there are many relaxing walking and cycling routes surrounding the site too. Cool ice cream or seafood specialties on your brain? Well, the site is well-positioned to muck into some more tasty local produce. Lealholm village is five minutes’ drive away, where there’s a café, pub and village shop (not forgetting the stepping stones) and there are several more pubs within 10 minutes’ drive of the site. If you accumulate any dirty food containers from your adventures out and about, it's handy to note there’s a dishwashing area on site. Other facilities include portable toilets.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Lovely, out of the way country site. Perfect location for East coast resorts. Toilets and showers were new and spotlessly clean Onsite farm shop was great Nice owner (Liz) always available to help Lots of sheep in next field just added to the farmyard feel.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: What a hidden gem. A lovely campsite, with toilet and shower facilities that are kept lovely and clean. A farm surrounding, so lovely a peaceful except for the owls and sheep! We had a long weekend there with a camp fire and bbq (you can even hire a fire pit, wind breaker and buy a marshmallow kit for toasting on-site for a minimal charge). Liz who runs the campsite is lovely and very welcoming, and I would recommend this site for family, couples or solo travellers alike. Only a short drive to the coast or walk if you feel up to it, with Runswick Bay a short distance away and one of the most beautiful beaches I've been too. We would definitely stay again and would highly recommend the site to everyone.

Disliked: There was absolutely NOTHING to dislike about any of it.

Ash bell tent

Liked: Great site and good facilities. You can even purchase/hire marsmellow kits, firepits and windbreakers. My two loved the sheep free roaming on the roadside and plenty of space to have a run around outside tent. Highly recommended and will definitely be returning. You can hire a bell tent just like us.

Liked: Lovely, well positioned campsite, the host was welcoming and helpful and the facilities were clean. We hired a fire pit to roast marshmallows, as did most of the other campers and our kid loved it.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The best thing about this campsite is the spacious size of the pitches and the layout of the pitches around the edge of the field leaving the middle free for games etc. It had a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere and excellent facilities for a pop up campsite and was only a short drive to some lovely beaches . The evenings were wonderful sat around a campfire .It was perfect for our family we enjoyed it immensely ..thank you !
