  • Quiet, adults-only site in the stunning Yorkshire Dales
  • A five-minute walk to Kettlewell on the Dales Way for hiking
  • Great Whernside fell and Kilnsey Crag within 15 minutes’ drive
As a smaller, adults-only site in the Yorkshire Dales National Park that welcomes couples and solo travellers but not groups, Wharfe Camp encourages a peaceful, quiet atmosphere where you'll be surrounded by the sounds of the countryside. As well as only accepting a small number of people, it has views of the green north Yorkshire countryside and is a five-minute walk from Kettlewell with its three pubs, bistro, garage, launderette and well-stocked village shop. The rural settlement (known for its annual Scarecrow Festival) is on the Dales Way, so there are lots of scenic walks in the local area. The River Wharfe is also metres from the site for kayakers, and Kilnsey Crag is less than 10 minutes’ drive away for the climbers. Cavers are also sorted as the subterranean systems in Wharfedale are about the same distance from the site. If you are sticking to strolls, the circular route around the glacial lake at Malham Tarn starts from 45 minutes away or you can wander up to the waterfalls at Gordale Scar to gaze up at the overhanging limestone cliffs, stopping by Malham Cove to take snaps of the odd rock formations (35 minutes from the site) along the way. On site, the back of the family barn has been extended to include new toilets, a hot shower in a wetroom and washing-up facilities. Recycling’s also encouraged. Please note this is a place that's all about the peace and quiet, so no radios, televisions, musical instruments or musical kits are permitted. Guests are asked to close the car door and boots gently. Group bookings aren't permitted either (this includes groups making individual bookings and meeting up on site).

What customers say

This is a highly recommended, quiet, adult-only campsite in a beautiful location, praised for its spacious, private pitches and stunning views. Guests consistently highlight the friendly and attentive owner, Sean, and the immaculately clean facilities. Its proximity to Kettlewell village provides easy access to pubs, cafes, and numerous walking routes directly from the site. While pitches may have a slight slope, this is generally well-managed, and guests appreciate the peaceful atmosphere and the charm of the resident chickens.

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked Great location. Lots of walking options straight from the camp site. Pubs within 5 minutes walk. Clean shower and toilets. Generous pitch size. Dark Skys area for amazing star gazing. We walked to Buckden on an easy circular route. Warm welcome from Sean when we arrived.

Disliked No dislikes but pitches are slightly sloping, this is clearly stated on the website. Consider your pitch orientation to suit you best.

Liked The campsite was in a good location with views all around. The owner Sean was very friendly, came to introduce himself and check everything is ok and anything he can help you with.

We were pleasantly surprised to be left some fresh eggs a couple of time from his chickens

Electric optional hardstanding campervan pitch

Liked The site is great. A 5 min walk from the village. It is a well kept site with individual pitches, given privacy by beech hedging. The toilet and shower area is clean and well presented but compact. We will definitely be back again.

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked Fabulous site! Really can't rate it high enough. Beautifully kept, personal pitch area with shrub borders for privacy. Loo and shower (free btw) were kept spotlessly clean all day and night. Sean was a great owner who was very welcoming. Excellent location. Pub within two minutes walk, beautiful views, excellent walks by hills or river. Perfect! Fell in love.

Disliked Neighbouring house were a tad noisy in the early mornings with vehicle and child drop offs. Something the campsite owner has zero control over.

Local attractions

Climber or caver? Kilnsey Crag is less than 10 minutes’ drive from the site if you are here to scale some walls, and the underground systems in Wharfedale are about the same distance away for subterranean capers… And, try out fly fishing at Kilnsey Park (10 minutes) too. If you are sticking to strolls, the circular route around the glacial lake at Malham Tarn starts about 45 minutes’ drive away, and a wander up to the waterfalls at Gordale Scar to gaze up at overhanging limestone cliffs, stopping by Malham Cove to take snaps of the odd rock formations, is possible about 35 minutes from the site. For more forays into the countryside, Great Whernside and its fell walks take 10 minutes to reach. Along with the hills, the market towns are also worth visiting in North Yorkshire, like pretty Grassington (15 minutes' drive), where the new All Creatures Great and Small is being filmed, and Skipton, for its castle (25 minutes). Another ancient building to swing by is the 12th-century Augustinian monastery Bolton Priory 40 minutes’ drive away.
