  • Small, peaceful site next to Aysgarth Falls in the Yorkshire Dales
  • Hawes, Bolton Castle and The Forbidden Corner within 15 minutes' drive
  • Large pitches with easy access from the A684; bar/restaurant next door
If you’re writing a list of the best spots to visit in the Yorkshire Dales, Aysgarth Falls is bound to be on it… And if you’re planning to visit Aysgarth Falls, well, where better to settle down for the night than a site within a few minutes’ walk? The falls are the main attraction here – they’re five minutes away on foot – but Aysgarth Falls Caravan and Camping Park has more to offer as well. For starters, there are lovely views out over Wensleydale from all of the peaceful pitches, and plenty of local footpaths to wander along nearby to seek out more scenery. It’s also handily placed just off the A684 for easy travels – oh, and it just happens to have a bar and restaurant next door serving up home-cooked local produce alongside some of Yorkshire’s finest ales… The pitches at this North Yorkshire site are fairly small in number but large in size, with access to essential amenities including a washing-up area, toilets and a heated shower block. Shops are 10 minutes’ drive away in Leyburn, and there’s a rather tasty prospect two miles away at the Wensleydale Ice Cream Parlour. Once you’ve spotted the falls and eaten the ice cream, what next? This location is within easy reach of several other attractions, including Bolton Castle, The Forbidden Corner and the Wensleydale Creamery as well as the many waterfalls, waterways and walks that the Dales are famed for.

Electric hardstanding motorhome pitch (small)

Liked: We loved the surrounding area. Absolutely beautiful, especially the breathtaking waterfalls. The main hotel was very well maintained and the staff were lovely.

Disliked: We were disappointed with the shower and toilet sheds and the condition of the campsite area itself. It wouldn’t take much to give it a revamp, it’s desperately needed. We also think it would be a great to have the washing up sinks uncover. I’m sure it wouldn’t be pleasant doing your washing up in the pouring rain nor is it hygienic.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: We liked the surrounding areas and the amazing nature and wildlife that were a short walk away from the site itself. It was handy that there was a pub on site. Remember to book a meal if you want to eat on the evening. There is a shop to buy essential things about 7 minute walk out of the site. We did enjoy our stay but don't think we would book again.

Disliked: The camp site it self is a car park. There were three toilet sheds and 2 shower sheds that were clean but essentially sheds! On site pub was okay for drinks but we had a meal which was nice enough but the staff forget orders and would come back to remind themselves e.g. my husband ordered an elderflower tonic three times, for the gin that he was given, before he got it and I gave up on the extra gravy that never came! Only small issues and an 'okay' stay.

Liked: Lovely location and good size pitches, nice outdoor pub seating too. Adults-only was a bonus!

Disliked: The showers and toilets were fine, however hot water was expected for the price per night. Toilets did run out of toilet paper on two out of three of our days. Cleanliness was at a minimum, although other campers could take responsibility for this too! However we appreciate the new waterwalls in the toilets and shower.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The location was great with fantastic walks direct from the campsite.

Disliked: The toilet and showers were situated in a garden shed. Although clean, it was very very basic and completely opposite to the actual pub/hotel on site. It felt that customers using the campsite were treated differently to the customers using the pub/hotel. Would not return or recommend.

Liked: On arrival we were welcomed by the staff who were extremely friendly, checked us quickly and told us all about the site.. The pitch was easy to find and get to.. Electric hook-up worked perfect without any issues at all.. Toilets and showers were clean and easy to get to and use.

Disliked: Lock on one of the shower door wouldn't lock in fully as think the door had dropped slightly..

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Having read some previous reviews about the site and specifically its toilets and showers we were a bit apprehensive. However, on arrival we were greeted by Jake who was extremely efficient and helpful. The campsite was well laid out and looked after. The toilets and showers (2 of each) were clean and toilet rolls provided. Yes they are in sheds but we didn't see any major gaps in the woodwork as reported by others. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back.

Local attractions

With the falls being only five minutes away on foot, you’ll need to look a little further afield if you’re planning to hike in this area. A few local beauty spots to include on your trips might be Cauldron Falls (half an hour’s walk), Semerwater (15 minutes’ drive – and also a place to fish, swim or launch your kayaks/paddleboards) and Middleham Castle (15 minutes). Beyond all that, of course, is the entirety of the Yorkshire Dales – easy road access here means it’s straightforward to get out to popular places like Buttertubs Pass (25 minutes), Grassington (40 minutes) and Malham (an hour). The imposing Bolton Castle (10 minutes) and the ruins of Jervaulx Abbey (20 minutes) should be on your to-visit list too, as should the Wensleydale Creamery (15 minutes) for tasters of the area’s famous cheese. The weird and wonderful walkways of The Forbidden Corner (15 minutes) make a great day out too, especially if you’re looking for ways to get the kids outside.
