Hedging around the caravan site

  • Small family-run caravan site at a North Yorkshire golf course
  • York city centre 15 minutes' drive; designer shopping outlet 10 mins
  • Restaurant, woodland walks and several golf options on site
Woodland walks on one side, a golf course on the other, and a cosy restaurant serving up tasty meals to get you through whatever activity you’ve chosen for that day – now doesn’t that sound just a little bit fabulous? This is the setup on offer at Swallow Hall, a small family-run caravan site in the North Yorkshire countryside a couple of miles from the village of Wheldrake and six miles from the centre of York. This place is something of a dream for golfing types – in fact the caravan site is inside the grounds of Swallow Hall Golf Course, which has a pay-and-play 18-hole facility that doesn’t require any tee time booking. Guests also have the option of playing on the 9-hole Academy course (par 28), honing their skills at the short game area or extending the day with some time on the floodlit driving range. Meanwhile, non-golfers have direct access to Forestry Commission woodland walks, or may prefer to get out for a day of retail therapy at the Designer Outlet York, 10 minutes’ drive away. Whichever one of these you fancy, you can get set up for the day at The Roost restaurant on site, which is open for breakfasts, lunches, drinks and sweet treats throughout the day (closed Monday and Tuesday, and not open evenings). It’s a popular place so booking a table is recommended if possible. Wheldrake has a pub and a small shop for your other sustenance needs. Pitches have access to an eco-friendly modern toilet and shower block; please note that only eco-friendly biodegradable toilet fluid can be used on site.

Swallow Hall is a highly-rated, peaceful campsite situated in a lovely location with spacious, well-maintained pitches and attractive surroundings. Visitors frequently praise the immaculately clean and modern toilet and shower facilities, along with the friendly and helpful staff. The site's proximity to woodland walks and convenient access to York via park and ride are also highlighted. Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Absolutely everything, the peace, the size of the pitches, the owners and staff, the superb toilet and shower facilities, the cleanliness and the food in the clubhouse was brilliant, plentiful and reasonably priced. The walk into the woods directly off the site was ideal and a good place to get away from the sun for the dogs.

Disliked There genuinely is nothing to dislike

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked A beautiful, quiet site with plenty of space and privacy. Beautifully clean facilities and easy to get into York. Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to use the local onsite eatery, but "check-in" was easy and the site felt very safe.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked We had a wonderful stay at The Swallows Rest Campsite.
Perfect location – peaceful, clean, and beautifully maintained. The facilities are amazing, and the staff are so friendly and kind. They even let us arrive and pitch early to avoid the worst of Storm Floris, which was a lovely touch.

The grass is like a soft carpet – our 20-month-old daughter could happily run around barefoot the whole time. A truly relaxing and welcoming place; we can’t wait to come back.
