  • Fabulous location on the banks of the River Ouse in Bishopthorpe
  • A 10-minute drive to York city centre, with summer riverbus available
  • Restaurant, café-bar, playground, beauty salon and kayak hire on site
The name says it all here – The Riverfront York is indeed in a wonderful location right on the banks of the River Ouse, on the edge of the North Yorkshire village of Bishopthorpe. This is a fabulous setting for many reasons – the lush greenery and river views take top billing, of course, but there’s also the fact that the centre of York is only about three miles away. Drive up to the city in about 10 minutes, cycle it in 20 minutes or (if you're here between April and September) catch a riverbus for a particularly scenic journey to the centre. There are other ways to enjoy that river scenery too – you can hire motor boats or kayaks on site or take walks along the riverside path. And if that all sounds like too much effort, just find a quiet spot on site and settle down with your book or connect to the wifi to send lovely pics to your pals back home. Facilities at this site have been very nicely thought out – there's a playground for the kids and a beauty salon where frazzled grownups can treat themselves to a bit of pampering. Food is easily sorted as well, with a café-bar selling breakfasts, coffees, snacks and sandwiches on site. Bosun, the main restaurant (open Thursday to Sunday), also has a full menu featuring local seasonal ingredients, steak specials, seafood dishes, Sunday lunches and kids’ options. Even the bathrooms are worth an honourable mention here too – these smart modern facilities have been stylishly decorated and kitted out with accessible facilities as well as handy extras like hairdryers.

What customers say

This is a beautifully maintained, clean, and peaceful riverside site with excellent modern shower and toilet facilities, frequently described as the best ever experienced. Guests appreciate the convenient location for visiting York via walk, bus, or river taxi. Minor points raised include limited washing-up sinks, occasional WiFi issues, and occasional noise from nearby works, with some noting the restaurant has limited opening hours.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch (large, no awning)

Liked A very well maintained clean peaceful site .

Disliked Should have separate wash cubicles in the toilet/shower blocks and a path way from each pitch for wheel chairs instead of a stoned area.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback Leslie. We're delighted you found the site clean, peaceful, and well maintained — it's exactly the atmosphere we aim to provide.
We also really appreciate your suggestions regarding the wash cubicles and wheelchair access. Accessibility and comfort are important to us, and your comments help guide future improvements. Mike C.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch (medium, no awning)

Liked Very nice clean, tidy site. ( including toilet and showrs) Good location for bus trip to York. And "The Bosun" does a great Sunday lunch.

Disliked Lack of anybody to seek additional information.Want a bus time? Send an email.
Discuss showers that are too hot..send an email.
The cost of a pitch might suggest an open office that rather than one open occasionally.
But never when you go and check!
And then the Ferry does not run Tuesdays end September...no.good if you have booked Sunday lunch.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback Mike - we’re so pleased you enjoyed the clean, well-kept site, our facilities, and the convenience of getting into York. And it’s great to hear you enjoyed Sunday lunch at Bosun’s!
As a small site, we don’t staff the office full-time, but we do provide a dedicated phone number for guests and have team members based nearby who are always available to help with enquiries. We’re working on making that clearer so guests know how to reach us during their stay.
Regarding the Riverbus, it’s operated by our partner, City Cruises, and runs to and from our site on weekends throughout the summer, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays during school holidays. Full details are available on our website to help guests plan ahead.
Thanks again for your comments — they help us improve, and we hope to welcome you back.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch (large, no awning)

Liked Layout of site
Ease of booking
Cleanliness of facilities
Quality of facilities

Disliked No physical barrier between pitches (i.e. Hedges)
Poor Wi-Fi signal that didn't request a password although a password was supplied.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: hank you for your detailed feedback Malcolm - we're so pleased you appreciated the site layout, smooth booking process, and the cleanliness and quality of our facilities.
We understand the desire for more privacy between pitches and will keep this in mind as we continue to improve the site’s landscaping. Regarding the Wi-Fi, we’re sorry for the confusion. The network should prompt for a password, so we’ll investigate the issue to ensure a smoother connection experience for future guests.
Thanks again for sharing your thoughts - we hope to welcome you back soon.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch (no awning, small)

Liked Beautiful site, next to the river and a 10 min walk to the village. Nothing to dislike. Restaurant shut when we visit but the wee coffee shop served lunch and snacks. Sitting in the dombed pod next to the river was lovely. Great pitch size, clean facilities.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review - we're so pleased you enjoyed the riverside setting, spacious pitches, and clean facilities. It’s great to hear the coffee shop hit the spot, and we’re glad you got to relax in one of the all-weather pods by the river - they’re a guest favourite!
Just to clarify for future guests: our restaurant is open Thursday to Sunday all year round, and the Café Bar is open daily with hours that vary seasonally. We hope you’ll get a chance to enjoy both on your next visit. Looking forward to welcoming you back soon!

Disliked Never seen any member of staff whilst there. Don’t like the public path right on front of park

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback - we're glad you enjoyed the location, peaceful surroundings, and clean shower facilities.
We’re sorry you didn’t have a chance to meet any of our team during your stay. Staff are always on site or nearby, and we’re always reviewing signage and visibility to help guests feel more supported. As for the public path, we understand it’s not ideal for everyone. It’s part of the local right of way network, but we’ll continue to monitor how it affects guest experience.

Iain H.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch (medium, no awning)

Liked Really nice site and a great location, not sure where the checkin time restriction comes in, I asked at the cafe ands told I didnt need to check in as I already knew the pitch etc so just park up and enjoy. We caught the bus into York and thats a 10 min walk to the stop with a 30 min trip into the middle of town but a great and easy way to see York. Went in time for the food festival which is great and taking the bus meant sampling the food and drink in the tents was worry free.

Shower block clean and well looked after, really nice showers.

Disliked We couldnt seem to get the wifi to work but not a major issue so didnt ask or raise it. Very minor in the scheme of things and Im sure it could have been sorted if we had bothered.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review Iain - we're so glad you enjoyed the site, its location, and the ease of getting into York. It’s great to hear you made the most of the food festival in York and found the showers clean and well maintained.
We appreciate your note about the Wi-Fi. It’s always worth flagging these things during your stay, as our team is happy to help get you connected. And you're absolutely right - if you've pre-booked and know your pitch, you're welcome to head straight there and settle in. Thanks again for sharing your experience, and we hope to welcome you back soon!

Electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch (no awning, XL)

Liked Lovely site by the river. Choice of pitches which are mostly level. To see a plan of the pitches look at the owner own website. Wonderful new toilet and shower block with proper showers!
Restaurant on site which looked nice, but we didn't visit this time.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review Jackie - we're so pleased you enjoyed the riverside setting, the range of level pitches, and our new toilet and shower block. It’s great to hear the facilities made a positive impression, and we appreciate you pointing others toward the pitch plan on our website.
